| The issue of migrant workers has always been a unique demographic issue in Chinese society, and for a long time it has been colliding with various social phenomena, stimulating new discussions in the academic world. Now,more than twenty years after the study of migrant workers, the "old generation" of migrant workers, who were once the subject of research, have been renewed and replaced by a "new generation" of migrant workers with new characteristics and attributes, who also live and work in a new social environment.Since the concept of "sense of access" was introduced as a new social indicator in2015,a series of studies have been conducted in this regard.Unlike existing social indicators,"sense of access" is also a unique concept with Chinese social characteristics. On this basis, this paper attempts to combine the time-honoured concept of "new generation of migrant workers" with the still relatively new and flexible concept of "sense of access",and to structure and empirically analyse the study within the framework of social mobility theory.Using linear regression analysis using CLDS2016 data, this paper examines and draws conclusions about the mobility behaviour of new generation migrant workers along different dimensions. At the level of intergenerational mobility, mobility in terms of mother-child educational attainment and mobility in terms of intergenerational subjective social status identity have a significant impact on the sense of access of new generation migrant workers. The lower the level of mother-child educational attainment mobility, the higher the degree of upward mobility of intergenerational subjective social status identity, and the higher the sense of access. At the level of intra-generational mobility, there is a significant positive relationship between individual subjective social status identity and new generation migrant workers’ sense of attainment, with the higher the level of upward mobility of individual subjective status identity, the higher the group’s sense of attainment. In addition, new generation migrant workers with higher levels of education are also more likely to have a higher sense of access. Finally, the paper reflects on the theoretical and practical implications of the study through a review of the findings, and argues that there is still potential to update the analysis and definition of social mobility theory,as well as to reposition the dilemmas faced by the new generation of migrant workers in the context of social mobility, offering perspectives and possibilities for further research. |
