| With the popularity of the Internet, social networking sites(SNS)have gradually integrated into the social life of college students, and many studies have pointed out that the use of social networking sites will bring a series of adverse consequences.Social networking site dependence is an overuse that the individual cannot effectively regulate and views social networking sites as very important platforms that help one to accomplish daily life goals as well as important goals. Some studies have pointed out that the reason for dependence on social networking sites is the lack of psychological needs. At the same time, many studies have found that social exclusion,as a common social phenomenon, will lead to the lack of individual psychological needs.Studies have shown that social exclusion can predict the surveillance on social networking sites.Meanwhile, surveillance on social networking sites is easy to trigger negative emotions or states.Fear f missing out(FOMO),as a kind of diffuse anxiety,is easy to be triggered by it,thus affecting dependence on social networking sites. On the basis of previous studies, this study combines use and gratification theory, compensatory Internet enablement theory and media dependence theory, and explores the behavior and emotional state of social networking sites that may be triggered by social exclusion,as well as the social networking sites it brings.rely.At present, domestic social networking site monitoring and measurement tools are relatively scarce. This study aims to complete the translation and revision of the social networking site monitoring scale, and examine the relationship between social exclusion, social networking site monitoring, fear of missing out and social networking site dependence, and the relationship between social networking site monitoring and missing out.And from the two perspectives of individual and variable center, explore the mediating role of fear between social exclusion and social networking site dependency.Study 1 first revised the social networking site monitoring scale, secondly, analyzed the potential profile of social networking site dependence and its demographic differences from an individual-centered perspective, and explored the relationship between social exclusion, social network site dependence, fear of missing out and social network dependence. The results showed that:(1)The indicators of the questionnaire met the psychological measurement standards.(2)College student social networking site dependence can be divided into 2 different potential profiles, namely the "low dependence" group and the "high dependence" group.(3)Among college students,boys,first-year to graduate students, humanities majors, and only children are more likely to be classified as "low dependence" groups that rely on potential profiles of social networking sites, and girls, second and third years of graduate school, humanities majors, and only children are more likely to be classified as "high dependence" groups that rely on potential profiles of social networking sites.(4)Social exclusion significantly predicts the potential profile of dependence on social networking sites, and the higher the degree of social exclusion, the less likely individuals are to be classified into a "low-dependency group".(5)Social networking site surveillance and fear of missing out act as mediators between social exclusion and potential profile classifications on which social networking sites depend, respectively. The higher the social exclusion, the higher the fear of social networking site monitoring and missing out,and the less likely individuals are to be classified into "social networking site low-dependency groups."(6)Social networking site surveillance and missed fear act as a chain mediator between social exclusion and potential profile classifications that social networking sites rely on.The higher the social exclusion, the higher the social networking site surveillance, and the higher the fear of missing out,and the less likely individuals are to be classified into "social networking site low dependency groups."Study 2 adopts a variable-centered perspective to examine the relationship between social exclusion, social networking site surveillance, fear of missing out,and social networking site dependence.A questionnaire survey was conducted on 1030 college students, and the social exclusion scale for college students, the social networking site monitoring scale, the fear of missing out scale and the social networking site dependence scale were used to measure. The results show:(1)Social exclusion can significantly and positively predict college students’ dependence on SNS.(2)FOMO plays a significant mediating role between social exclusion and social networking site dependence.(3)Social networking site monitoring and fear of missing out have a significant chain mediating effect between social exclusion and social networking site dependence. The results of this study show that the translated and revised "Social Networking Site Monitoring Scale" meets the standards of psychometrics and has high reliability and validity.Social networking site dependency can be divided into two potential profiles, and can be predicted by social exclusion, and the mediating effect of social network surveillance and fear of missing out is significant. At the same time,it also reveals that college students who experience social exclusion will increase their dependence on social networking sites. Moreover, more social exclusion can not only directly aggravate college students’ dependency on social networking sites, but also in turn aggravate their degree through higher monitoring of social networking sites and fear of missing out. |
