In order to understand the motivational effects of the Beijing Winter Olympics on the daily autonomous exercise and fitness behavior of universitystudent volunteers,as well as to promote changes in their daily autonomous exercise and fitness behavior after the conclusion of the Olympics, this study employed a trans-theoretical model perspective to track the daily autonomous exercise and fitness behavior of university student volunteers during the Beijing Winter Olympics.Additionally,an intervention experiment was designed to facilitate their daily autonomous exercise and fitness behavior post-event.This study aims to address the following research questions:first, whether tracking the Olympic motivation significantly enhances the duration of post-event daily autonomous exercise and fitness among volunteers;second, whether targeted interventions after the event can further increase the duration of daily autonomous exercise and fitness. The study utilized literature review, participant observation, experimental methods, and statistical analysis based on the trans-theoretical model and relevant literature on event motivation to design the intervention experiment. After the conclusion of the Beijing Winter Olympics, questionnaires were distributed to recruit volunteers who participated in the Olympic volunteering service and whose pre-Olympic(TO)weekly duration of daily autonomous exercise and fitness did not meet the criteria for regular physical exercise(i.e.,in the intention stage and preparation stage of the trans-theoretical model). The duration of their pre-Olympic daily autonomous exercise and fitness was measured. The recruited university student volunteers were randomly assigned to the intervention group and the control group. The intervention group received a four-week online intervention in April 2022,using videos, posters, and TTM text as intervention materials and formats. After the intervention experiment(May 2022,T1),questionnaires were administered again to both the intervention and control groups to assess the level of daily autonomous exercise and fitness among volunteers following the conclusion of the intervention.A third survey questionnaire was distributed to volunteers six months after the intervention experiment(November 2022,T2)to assess their level of daily autonomous exercise and fitness at that point. The study findings are as follows:(1)The Winter Olympics experience significantly enhances the post-event exercise and fitness among university student volunteers.(2)Volunteers in the preparation stage show a decrease in post-event exercise and fitness duration, while volunteers in the intention stage show no significant changes.(3)Post-event exercise and fitness interventions are insufficient to further enhance volunteers’exercise and fitness behavior. The study offers the following recommendations:(1)Utilize major sports events volunteering as an opportunity to promote exercise and fitness.(2)Implement measures to facilitate sustainable sports participation legacies.(3)Employ comprehensive intervention strategies to enhance the effectiveness of events in promoting volunteers’exercise and fitness.
