The Peoples Daily Winter Olympics Report Narrative Study

The winter Olympic Games has been established for 83 years.Its charm and the spirit of freaking of nature,pursuing extreme,competition with myself constantly attract more attention and participation.During the Olympic Games,medias will report the news of the games for the audience.People’s Daily,which is the most influential media in China,had been following the winter Olympics since 1980.It has been covering wonderful Olympic news for people all the time.With holding the 24 th winter Olympic Games to China,Beijing will be the focus of international interest in 2022.It is worth while to discuss how to report this sports show.In order to provide good strategies for other medias,this study used narratology theory and based on a textual analysis,regards the People’s Daily winter Olympics as a narration of "large-scale sports show " and discusses them form two aspects: at micro-level,researching narrative content and narrative forms of the People’s Daily winter Olympics;and at the macro level,discussing the ideology constructed by the Winter Olympics reports.The research found that the Winter Olympics reports told the story of the opening ceremony,China’s ice and snow athletes’ preparations before competition,sports events and athletes,and post-games reports from Scenario,actor and event of story.Those stories form the narrative group of the Winter Olympics.In the narrative structure,the Winter Olympics reports were constructed from the perspective of omniscience,limited knowledge and compound perspective;in narrative time,the Winter Olympics combined flash forward and flashback,fast and slow;In the narrative discourse,the titles of the Winter Olympic Games reports were changeable,with distinctive rhetorical features,rich themes and various genres.In the narrative strategy,the Winter Olympic Games reports were rich in narrative theme and presents diversified characteristics;the narrative style was diverse and narrative details were gradually deepened;the narrative perspective was gradually flexible and diversified as the time changes.In the ideological construction,the discourse features of the People’s Daily Winter Olympics passed through three phases:the initial sage of participation(1980-1988)-learning and accumulating experience;(1992-2002)-willing to encourage and face up to the gap;and the steady stage of development(2006-2018)-continuing efforts and future prospects.Combined with the discourse characteristics,the research found that this story constructed the sense of national image,strengthened the national identity,and the national ideal of holding the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022 in China.In addition,it also carried forward the spirit of the Olympic Movement and conveyed social values.These narrative strategies of the People’s Daily are helpful to provide reference for other medias,and also to provide inspiration for traditional medias reporting the Beijing Winter Olympics.Finally,the mainstream medias of our country should respect various narrative subjects,use multiple narrative perspectives,report rich narrative themes,adopt various narrative symbols and other narrative strategies to highlight the charm of the Winter Olympic Games,tell Chinese stories well and spread Chinese culture.
