Unit teaching is a unit-based,holistic thinking,design and organisation of teaching under the guidance of the core literacy of the subject.Unit teaching design is more in line with the needs of the new curriculum,and teachers organise unit teaching design according to the physical and mental development characteristics of students as well as their learning needs,to develop students’ ability to construct a knowledge system,and unit teaching design can make mathematical knowledge more systematic and relevant,therefore,in senior secondary It is therefore necessary to adopt a modular approach to teaching and learning in senior secondary schools.The UbD theory is a mature foreign theory of unit design,which advocates "teaching design in pursuit of understanding",places the design of teaching evaluation before the design of teaching activities,and selects a variety of assessment evidence based on the "six dimensions of understanding",providing new ideas for unit design.This provides a new way of thinking about the design of units.In order to promote genuine understanding,this paper examines the design of a probability unit based on UbD theory.Probability is the branch of mathematics that studies the regularity of random phenomena,and probability is a measure of the likelihood of a random event occurring.The unit on probability plays an important role in senior secondary mathematics,and the study of probability can develop students’ core literacies such as mathematical abstraction and mathematical operations.The knowledge points and formulae in the probability section are relatively simple and comprehensive,but they involve more mathematical ideas and methods,so most students cannot apply their knowledge flexibly to solve problems.The root cause is that students do not really understand and master the knowledge of the probability part.This paper uses three research methods,namely literature analysis,questionnaire survey and interview method.Through the literature analysis method,we read the existing literature to understand the current situation of UbD theory,unit teaching and probability teaching at home and abroad;through interviews and questionnaire surveys with some teachers and students in the author’s internship school,we understand the current situation of probability learning and the awareness and application of UbD theory among high school teachers,and conclude that the following problems exist in the current probability unit teaching:(1)most teachers adopt small unit teaching(2)teaching design ignores the path of probability unit study(3)does not pay attention to the core concepts of probability unit.In response to the findings,the following recommendations were made:(1)analyse the curriculum standards,with teaching objectives as the top priority;(2)change teaching thinking and choose various assessment methods;(3)focus on students’ development and pursue true understanding,combining the above teaching recommendations and UbD theory with the guidance of the General High School Mathematics Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition Revised2020)for the probability unit and instructional design for selected lessons.
