This study analyzes the online nationalist practices of Chinese Korean Wave fandom with three representative events:"June 9th Holy War","Fandom Expedition",and "BTS Event".The events respectively symbolize the three stages of identification transformation of Korean Wave fandom in nationalist practices:Korean Wave fandom attacked by nationalists,Fandom nationalists, and the aggressive nationalists. This study further analyze the context behind the transformation of different identities.Based on Labeling Theory proposed by Howard S.Becker, this study finds that at the beginning of the 21st century,Korean Wave fans were labeled and became the target of online nationalists under the special circumstances, what behind the nationalist participation of Korean Wave fandom is the resistance to negative labels and the pursuit of equal dignity.Due to the relativity and arbitrariness of the labels, the symbolic interaction between Korean Wave fandom and labels ultimately leads to a chaotic situation where the boundaries between politics and entertainment are blurred and rules are mixed. The thesis is divided into four chapters based on Labeling Theory. The first chapter illustrates three different phases of nationalistic practices of Chinese Korean Wave fandom. Each of phrases is represented by a core media event, which are June 9th Holy War,Fandom Expedition, and BTS Event. The second chapter endeavors to excavate the formation of negative labels of Korean Wave fandom, and to examine the underlying driver of June 9th Holy War.The third chapter focuses on the transformation of negative label during Fandom Expedition. In the last chapter,it is observed that Korean Wave fandom starts inner wars to fight for the discourse power, and it leads to the the continuity of negative label. The aim of this research is to untangle the way technology, feminism, fandom war,main-stream media, international environment and group polarization influence fandom nationalism altogether.
