| The rapid development of information technology has brought a huge impact on the field of education. The need for higher-order thinking skills has become an important goal and standard in education that cannot be ignored.Studies show that interest in learning directly affects learning outcomes. At the same time, how to improve learning motivation is an urgent issue in the field of education.Game-based learning,as a new teaching approach, has the characteristics of enhancing students’ learning experience and interest. This study aims to explore how to use gamification to design a teaching method that is conducive to enhancing students’ higher higher-order thinking skills.Based on the theoretical foundations of constructivist theory and mind-flow theory, this paper investigates the current situation of elementary school students’ higher-order thinking skills and develops and implements a corresponding instructional design.Questionnaires and interviews were conducted for higher-order thinking skills based on the instructional design, and data analysis was conducted using SPSS,which included principal component analysis, descriptive analysis, and independent sample t-test.The findings indicate that the game-based learning classroom instructional design created in this study has a significant contribution to students’ higher-order thinking development. The combination of theory and practice provides suggestions and lessons for future gamified learning-based instruction to develop higher-order thinking skills. The purpose of this study is to explore how to design gamified learning-based instructional approaches using gamified elements. The study has important implications for the field of education and aims to provide teachers with a new pedagogical approach to validate the effectiveness of game-based learning in order to better promote the development of students’ higher-order thinking skills.Future research can further explore and optimize gamified learning design to better promote students’ higher-order thinking skills.Thus,game-based learning is a promising pedagogical approach for developing higher-order thinking skills. This study provides evidence that gamified learning can significantly promote the development of higherorder thinking skills in elementary school students. It also suggests that gamification can be integrated into instructional design and curriculum development to improve student motivation and outcomes. This study may provide a valuable reference for educators to integrate gamification into instructional practices to enhance students’ higher-order thinking skills. |
