Occupational choice is the starting point of an individual’s employment, and even determines the direction of his or her life. How to choose a career has become the focus of people’s attention and an important issue facing the whole life. With the continuous development of China’s economy and the emergence of new industries and new models, the mobility of employees between organizations and career reselection may become a norm in the future.Since the reform and opening-up of China, reducing the excessive academic or homework burden of students has been an important issue in China’s education sector, especially in the field of K12 education. The "double reduction" policy is important for accelerating school education reform, reconstructing the education ecosystem, and promoting students’ healthy growth, but at the same time, the development of extracurricular training industry and its practitioners also faces new challenges.Based on the consideration of the career re-selection of the employees of extracurricular training institutions in the context of "double reduction",this study aims to answer three questions: First, what is the current career re-selection status of the employees in extracurricular training institutions? Second, what are the factors influencing the occupational choice of the employees of extracurricular training institutions? Third, how can the employees of extracurricular training institutions make the right occupational choice? Based on the above research questions, this study adopts a mixed research design of qualitative research followed by quantitative research. For the qualitative study, interviews were conducted with 12 practitioners from six different types of extracurricular training institutions, and a questionnaire on occupational choice of extracurricular training institution employees was developed based on the analysis of the "double reduction" policy and literature review. For the quantitative part of the study, questionnaires were administered to the employees of the extracurricular training institutions in Shanghai. The pre-study part was based on49 valid questionnaires from the employees of extracurricular training institutions, and the reliability and validity of the questionnaire were examined. The formal questionnaire part collected 142 valid questionnaires.Based on the qualitative and quantitative research, the following conclusions were drawn from this study.First, the distribution of the mean values of factors influencing the occupational choice of employees in extracurricular training institutions is composed of 20 question items. After analyzing the mean values and ranking them from highest to lowest, the top five are: good salary and benefits(4.225),good industry prospect, many promotion opportunities, personal ability to do the job, good relationship with colleagues, and friendly leaders, all with scores above 4.Salary and benefits are most important in the occupational choice of the employees of extracurricular training institutions.Second,in terms of the variability of factors influencing the occupational choice of employees in extracurricular training institutions, there are significant differences in the influential factors between different gender, age groups, and education levels. In addition, different marital status, different nature of job types, and whether or not they value career planning also significantly influence the occupational choice of employees in extracurricular training institutions.Third,in terms of the problems that exist in the occupational choice of employees in extracurricular training institution,The current career value of the employees of extracurricular training institutions shows a tendency toward profit,And for most of the employees of extracurricular training institutions, problems such as seeking stability too much, ignoring job-matching,and lacking awareness of career planning and counseling were revealed when making occupational choices.Based on the above findings, this study proposes the following four countermeasures and suggestions to promote the correct occupational choice of extracurricular training institution employees: first, set up a correct occupational choice concept and dare to accept challenges;second, make good use of chance events to overcome negativity and achieve reasonable decision-making;third,make comprehensive cognition of self and career to optimize the person-job match;fourth, pay attention to career development and improve planning ability.
