Guided by the constant development of basic education reform,the higher requirement for learning ability and comprehensive quality of students is put forward.With the revise of 2017 edition of the new geography curriculum standard,traditional Three-dimensional Objects has been condensed by Four Geography Core Attainments with the characteristics of geography subject,which are View of coordination between man and earth,Acknowledge ability of region,Practical ability of geography and comprehensive thinking.The geography itself has regional characteristics,and the region is a crucial research object of geography.Meanwhile,by analyzing of the organization of tests for National College Entrance Examination in recent years,the tests examined students with hot spots of society on the basis of regional knowledge.The tests has become progressively and comprehensively more difficult.Therefore,we should pay more attention to the comprehensively analyze ability for regions.This thesis aims to research the core attainment which is the acknowledge ability of region.On the basis of historical background of geography core attainments,this thesis analyses current domestic and overseas research situation by the method of document study.According to questionnaire test survey,this thesis researches and analyzes reasons for current situation and problems for the cognitive competence of region of high school students in Linwei District,Weinan City.This thesis attempts to show methods for training the cognitive competence of region with the background of current situation of students.Therefore,the school is selected for experimental group.The third core course Regional Geography is chosen as teaching practice.This thesis explains three teaching cases,including region and regional difference,sustainable development of agriculture in Northeast China.Meanwhile,the extra-curricular activities were carried out to improve the cognitive competence of region for students.This thesis shows teaching practice for raise countermeasure based on three specific representatives extra-curricular activities,which are Geographic tour guide simulation contest,Chest gully,map line world painting exhibition,and Mind Map exhibition.The availability of the proposed strategy was verified through the before and after comparative analysis of the test paper and the interview with teachers.The main research results are summarized as follows.First,through the analysis of the test paper,students have the following problems:the limited ability of regional positioning method,poor ability of map reading and recognition,not fully answers to the subjective questions,not accurate description to the language,and the poor inferential capability to causal of spatial things and phenomena.In the study of geography,most students memorize by rote,and don’t form their own thinking system.So the learned knowledge is too rigid.The students also lack of learning transfer ability.They are unable to put themselves in the situation to solve the problem,only learn the case in books.They are poor to draw inferences about other cases from one instance.Second,according to the current situation and existing problems of students,this thesis shows some targeted strategies.Firstly,regional positioning is carried out through a variety of methods to cultivate students’ regional cognitive ability.Secondly,improve students’ spatial positioning ability by making rational use of geographic information technology.Thirdly,guide and cultivate students’ reading ability in the teaching practice.Fourth,use mind map to help students establish regional knowledge system.Fifthly,connect with real life and set up scene to establish the regional connection and improve the students’ regional comparison ability.Third,based on the cultivation strategy,teaching practice was carried out through teaching examples and extracurricular activities.The school is selected as the experimental group for the control experiment.Through the test paper and interview with teachers,the effectiveness of this training strategy was verified.It was found that students’ ability of reading and recognizing maps,knowledge transfer,regional connection and regional comparison were improved.
