Purpose of the study:Multi-ball training method is one of the important training methods in ball sports such as table tennis, tennis and badminton, and it is also a commonly used training method and means in teaching and training practice. This study aims to verify the practical effects of combined multi-ball training versus conventional multi-ball training on the acquisition of tennis skills and the use of combined techniques by conducting tennis multi-ball training with 20 students in a special tennis class at Wuhan Sports College. It is hoped that the research in this paper will strengthen the attention of experts and scholars in this area and will provide a template for college teachers to develop scientific multi-ball training.Research methods:This paper used literature, expert interview, questionnaire, teaching experiment, video observation, mathematical statistics, and logical analysis to randomly divide 20 subjects into experimental and control groups, and to conduct pre-test and post-test before and after the experiment, respectively. The experimental group was trained with combined multi-ball training, and the control group was trained with regular multi-ball training for 12 weeks. The subjects’ tennis stroke skills were tested before and after the experiment, and the data obtained were statistically processed using SPSS 26.0 software, including independent sample t-test for pre-experimental data, paired sample t-test for longitudinal comparisons, and independent sample t-test for post-experimental data between the experimental and control groups.method for cross-sectional comparative analysis.Findings:(1)After 12 weeks of combined multi-ball training and regular multi-ball training, the subjects in both groups had different degrees of improvement in depth and accuracy of baseline forehand and backhand shots. The experimental group performed better than the control group in terms of depth and accuracy of baseline forehand and backhand.(2)After 12 weeks of combined multi-ball training and regular multi-ball training, the subjects in both groups had different degrees of improvement in the forehand and backhand interceptions, and there was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in the forehand and backhand interception performance.(3)After 12 weeks of combined multi-ball training and regular multi-ball training, the subjects in both groups had different degrees of improvement in serving, and the experimental group had better performance than the control group in serving.(4)Through video observation of the match process and the use of combination techniques in the experimental and control groups, the experimental group’s competitive performance, success rate of using combination techniques and direct score rate were better than the control group. The students in the experimental group were skilled in the combination technique and more adapted to the actual match.
