Objective: This study investigates the internal relationship between primary school students’ motivation,self-efficacy and participation in Wu Shu in Xi’an,and analyzes them using theoretical and empirical research methods. There are three main purposes:(1)To construct a theoretical model of the relationship between motivation,self-efficacy and participation in Wu Shu among primary school students in Xi’an with reference to the behavioral mechanism of physical exercise and previous studies;(2)To verify the constructed theoretical model through empirical research;and(3)To draw conclusions and make reasonable suggestions based on the research results.Methods:(1)Literature method;(2)Questionnaire method: according to the needs of the study, questionnaires were distributed to elementary school students with Wu Shu participation in the urban area of Xi’an.The questionnaires mainly consisted of four parts: students’ basic personal information(gender, age, school attended, years of practice),Wu Shu motivation scale,self-efficacy scale, and Wu Shu participation questionnaire. The respondents were mainly primary school students who participated in Wu Shu as a formal course,Wu Shu exercises, club classes, school Wu Shu teams and other forms of Wu Shu participation.(3)Mathematical and statistical methods:In this study, the questionnaires collected were firstly checked and the order of the questions and logical relationships were adjusted using Excel, and the relevant indicators needed for the subsequent study were generated;then the statistical processing of the research data was carried out using Stata 17.0,which included the screening and cleaning of the data and the merging of the databases. The theoretical hypothesis paths were regressed by regression analysis empirical statistical analysis method to construct a regression model of Wu Shu motivation,self-efficacy and Wu Shu participation, and then the bootstrap test method(Bootstrap method)was used to verify whether there was a mediating effect of self-efficacy between Wu Shu motivation and Wu Shu participation.Results:(1)In the results of this survey, according to the scores of Wu Shu motivation, the process of deep participation in Wu Shu learning or exercise in elementary school in Xi’an is conducted by Identified regulation as the dominant factor;the self-efficacy of elementary school students in Xi’an is in the middle to upper level from the overall perspective(3.375±0.833 point),which is more suitable for students to participate in Wu Shu learning or exercise;the participation of The mean score of the intensity of Wu Shu participation of the primary school students in Xi’an in this survey was 2.675±0.753 point, which was between low and moderate intensity;the mean score of the average duration of participation was 3.652±0.775 point, which ranged from 20 to 60 minutes;the number of times per week that students participated in Wu Shu learning or exercise reached 10.393±4.559 times per week;(2)The intrinsic motivation,Identified regulation, external regulation, and amotivation of primary school students in Xi’an The differences in intrinsic motivation,Identified regulation, external regulation, and amotivation among primary school students in Xi’an were not significant by gender, but the indicator of motivation was significantly lower among boys than girls(p<0.05);Identified regulation was significantly increased with longer practice time, and the intensity and length of participation were also significantly increased;students who "summarized themselves" after class had a higher level of intrinsic motivation,Identified regulation, and amotivation.Students who performed "self-summary" after class had significantly higher intrinsic motivation,Identified regulation, and self-efficacy than those who did not perform "self-summary," and showed higher intensity of participation in the process of participation;students with competition experience also showed significantly higher levels of intrinsic motivation and self-efficacy than those without competition experience, and at the same time, they showed higher intensity of participation in the process of Wu Shu learning or exercise. Finally, there is no significant difference between the higher and lower grades in this study in all aspects;(3)According to the results of the regression analysis of each variable and the mediating effect test, individual motivation and self-efficacy will have a significant effect on individual participation in Wu Shu.Based on the results,self-efficacy was tested as a mediating effect between the model and the results showed that self-efficacy played a significant mediating role in the effect of motivation on Wu Shu participation.Conclusion:(1)The basic conditions of Wu Shu motivation,self-efficacy,and participation of primary school students in Xi’an are good;(2)"Wu Shu Competition experience" and "self-summary" help students engage in Wu Shu participation;(3)Self-efficacy plays a significant mediating effect in the influence of Wu Shu motivation on Wu Shu participation.
