At present, the application of bilateral transfer theory in sports training and teaching has gradually become one of the research hotspots in the field of sports training and teaching. In China, the teaching of sports skills mostly follows the principle of gradual progress, starting from easy to difficult. The focus of teachers’ teaching, training, and students’ learning and practice is on the mastery of skills on the advantageous side of the body, while the acquisition and development of skills on the disadvantaged side are often overlooked. This leads to problems such as imbalanced development of students’ athletic abilities and significant deviations in their lateral movement levels.Sports elective courses are an important means for college students to participate in sports, acquire sports skills, improve physical fitness, and cultivate exercise habits.Promoting the balanced and comprehensive development of student movement ’sports ability, physical quality, etc.in the optional course of physical education is the educational goal and purpose of the optional course of physical education, and also an important embodiment of the value of the course. Therefore,it is necessary to incorporate the theory of bilateral transfer into the teaching of physical education elective courses in ordinary universities and explore its effectiveness, which has important enlightening significance for improving the teaching methods of physical education elective courses in ordinary universities. This study focuses on single handed shoulder shooting, high dribbling during movement, and single handed low handed shooting during movement as teaching experiments.Research methods such as literature review, expert interviews, questionnaire surveys, measurement, and teaching experiments are used to conduct the study.Mainly through the teaching experiment method, the teaching experiment duration is set to 16 weeks, with each group having one teaching experiment class per week, with each class lasting 90 minutes. The pre experiment and post experiment tests do not occupy the teaching hours, but are conducted before and after the experiment. After the experiment, the obtained data was analyzed and compared, and the research results showed that:After the experiment,Group 1 achieved the best teaching effect, which was reflected in the technical test and scoring scores of one handed shoulder shot in place, low handed single handed shot during movement, and high dribbling during movement. The teaching effect of one-handed shoulder shot technique on the advantage side in situ is as follows: experimental group 3<control group<experimental group 2<experimental group 1;The teaching effect of single handed low handed shooting during the movement was as follows: experimental group 3<experimental group 2<control group<experimental group 1;The teaching effect of high dribbling during the movement is as follows: experimental group3=control group<experimental group 2<experimental group 1.The teaching effect of one-handed shoulder shot technique on the weak side in situ was as follows:experimental group 1>experimental group 3>experimental group 2>control group; The teaching effect of single handed low handed shooting during the movement was as follows: experimental group 1>experimental group 3,experimental group 2,and control group; The teaching effect of high dribbling during the movement was as follows: experimental group 2>experimental groups 1 and 3>control group.Research conclusion: Through this teaching experiment,it was found that there was bilateral transfer in all experimental groups, and there were differences in the transfer effects caused by the different proportion of exercises on the advantageous and disadvantaged sides in each group. The theory of bilateral transfer can be applied to the teaching of basketball elective courses in ordinary universities, which has a good promoting effect on students’ learning of high dribbling between moves, one hand shoulder shot in place, and one hand low hand shot during moves. On the basis of establishing correct, proficient, and standardized technical movements, the theory of bilateral transfer is applied to basketball teaching in ordinary universities.By appropriately increasing the amount of practice on the weaker side,it helps the dominant side to better grasp technical movements and promote a more balanced mastery of technical movements between the dominant side and the weaker side. The application of bilateral transfer theory requires scientific control of the amount of practice on the weaker side. After reaching a certain threshold, the effect gradually weakens.
