Guided by the policy documents issued by the state regarding school physical education, this study seeks to innovate the form of physical education classes, improve the quality of physical education teaching, cultivate students’ interest in sports, and develop high-quality school physical education classes as the research goal.As a sport in the public physical education elective course of general higher education institutions,Taekwondo is a comprehensive sport that combines exercise, technique and competition, and is widely welcomed by the college students. However, the teaching methods currently used in physical education classes are too old-fashioned and outdated, and students generally show too much reliance on physical education teachers,an inactive classroom atmosphere, and poor student learning power in physical education classes.Based on this, this study mainly discusses the application of “task-driven teaching method” in the teaching of taekwondo elective class in general colleges and universities, under the background of national curriculum teaching reform, and aims to provide some reference for the optimization and reform of taekwondo elective class in general colleges and universities. This study utilized the methods of literature analysis, expert interview, questionnaire survey, experimental teaching method and mathematical statistics.Eighty male students in the elective course of taekwondo at Shandong Agricultural University were selected and divided into two classes, the experimental class and the control class, for a 16-week teaching experiment. The experimental class was taught by task-driven teaching method, while the control class was taught by traditional physical education method.Since the experimental subjects of this study were non-physical education students of general majors in general colleges and universities, and the nature of the course was public physical education, under the guidance and suggestion of instructors and expert professors in the field of taekwondo, the test items and indexes were selected with reference to relevant professional literature about the construction of taekwondo special quality test indexes, and the students’ physical quality, learning attitude, learning interest, and skills were tested and compared before or after the experiment, and SPSS26.0 software was used to analyze the test data.Research results:(1)At the end of the teaching experiment, the test data of standing long jump,50-meter run, sitting forward bend, and left and right quick knee lift were significantly different before and after the experiment in the experimental class, and the test data of 1000-meter test were slightly improved but not significantly different. The test data of the left and right quick knee lift were significantly different before and after the experiment, and the test data of other physical fitness tests were slightly improved but there was no significant difference between the two groups. The test data of strength quality, flexibility, speed and agility quality of the students in the experimental class were significantly better than those of the students in the control class after the experiment and showed significant differences, while there was no significant difference between the test data of endurance quality.(2)At the end of the teaching experiment, the scores of students in the control class on the interest in learning and learning attitude questionnaire before the experiment were slightly improved compared with those after the experiment but the difference was not significant. The students in the experimental class showed a significant increase in their scores on the interest in learning and attitude questionnaire before the experiment compared to after the experiment, and the difference was very significant. After the experiment, the students in the experimental class had higher interest in learning and attitude toward learning than the students in the control class, and there were significant differences between the data.(3)At the end of the teaching experiment, there was a significant difference in the scores of taekwondo basic technique legwork movement test between the students in the experimental class and the control class.(4)At the end of the teaching experiment, there was a significant difference in the scores of taekwondo Pinsei technique test between the students in the experimental class and the control class.Research conclusion:(1)Both task-driven teaching method and traditional physical education method improve the physical quality of college students to different degrees, but students show more significant improvement in speed quality, lower limb explosive power and flexibility quality after teaching with task-driven teaching method compared with traditional physical education method.(2)Compared with the traditional physical education method, the task-driven teaching method is more likely to enhance students’ interest in learning, more likely to correct students’ learning attitudes, more likely to help improve students’ mastery of taekwondo basic techniques of legwork, and more likely to help improve students’ taekwondo pose techniques.
