| Educational punishment is an old and new topic,which has existed in the field of education since the day it was born.With the publicity of human subjectivity and the drawbacks exposed by unreasonable punishment in modern society,educational punishment has once again become the focus of social attention.In recent years,with the implementation of disciplinary rules for primary and secondary education,the chaos of punishment has improved,but there are still problems.John Locke,who lived in the seventeenth century,based on his understanding of human nature,brilliantly expressed the wisdom of educational punishment in his book "Essays on Education".In Locke’s view,whether in modern society or modern society,the problem of children’s unlimited desires as "masterless people" is still the same.Educational punishment is to help children improve their rationality,develop a spirit of moderation,enable abstract and empty people to obtain prescriptiveness,and achieve freedom in the pursuit of true happiness.First of all,the formation and development of Locke’s educational punishment ideology was influenced in many ways,and the established social development situation and previous educational punishment ideas laid the foundation for the formation of Locke’s educational punishment thought;Locke’s homeschooling,schooling,and tutoring experiences also subtly contributed to the formation of his punitive ideology..Secondly,Locke’s idea of punishment has a deep philosophical and political foundation,based on empirical epistemology,Locke attaches great importance to the discipline of children by parents,and advocates that children born without prescriptiveness should eventually be cultivated into moral people with rational temperance;Moreover,from a liberal standpoint,Locke advocated that discipline and punishment should not be reduced to slavery,but that freedom should be the ultimate value,helping people to make good use of reason and freedom and achieve long-term happiness.Regarding the basic methods of educational punishment,Locke advocated that parents should discipline children early and establish reasonable authority;To be lenient and moderate,reasonable punishment can be used to stop the transgression of virtue;Parents can cultivate their children’s moral habits through example demonstration and practice to avoid excessive punishment and loss of effectiveness;Parents should use honor and disgrace education punishment to make children love honor and self-discipline;Parents should use corporal punishment with caution,such as whipping if they encounter a child’s stubborn obstinate attack,but be strategic.On the basis of discussing the content of punishment in Locke education,this paper also analyzes the advanced and limited ideas of punishment to help us dialectically view and borrow.Based on the reasonable factors involved,this article gives five modern implications for educational punishment.First,parents should love sensibly,balancing punishment and freedom;Second,punishment should stimulate children’s sense of shame and cultivate moral people;Third,punishment should run through the spirit of moderation and rationally regulate the intensity;Fourth,punishment should have insight into children’s psychological characteristics and ensure flexibility and appropriateness;Fifth,educators should establish the authority of teachers and enhance the credibility of punishment. |
