Integrating the nature of science education into the concept of secondary school curriculum has become a major trend in the world’s curriculum reform, and Chinese newly promulgated high school chemistry curriculum standards put forward clear requirements for the nature of science. The nature of science is an important part of scientific literacy, which can be used as an important perspective to understand the core literacy of chemistry.STS education plays a role of enhancing students’ understanding and awareness of the nature of science,Chinese new edition of high school chemistry textbooks attaches great importance to the presentation of STS contents, comparing with the old version of the textbook has added a lot of STS contents, analysising of the three editions of compulsory textbook STS content presentation mode and characteristics have theoretical and practical significance.By combing the relevant literature of STS and the nature of science, grasping the connotation of STS and scientific essence, combining the research characteristics, selecting the nature of science analysis framework, and formulating scoring standards. The compulsory parts of the current three editions of high school chemistry textbooks in China were selected, the STS content in the textbook was coded and counted according to the connotation of STS,and the nature of science presentation in the content was analyzed by using the nature of science analysis framework, and scored from the three aspects of "presentation accuracy","explicit or implicit" and "internal consistency" according to the scoring standards, and summarized and analyzed the nature of science presentation characteristics of STS content in the three editions of the compulsory high school chemistry textbook. From the qualitative and semi-quantitative perspectives, the characteristics and laws of the new textbooks in implementing education on the nature of science are analyzed,to provide reference for chemistry teaching and textbook preparation.Through the research, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)The content of the three editions of the compulsory textbook STS presents the dimension of the nature of science more comprehensively and accurately characterized;(2)The nature of science is presented in various ways and rich in context;(3)The nature of science is presented with complete content and highlights practicality;(4)The dimensions of the nature of science are unbalanced in quantity.Due to the limitation of research time and ability, there may be certain subjective biases in the selection of STS content, the content selection is limited, and the analysis of the essential dimension of science is not thorough enough, which needs to be further improved in subsequent research.
