The aging population is a realistic situation that China is facing and constantly deepening. As a silver haired economic market, modern elderly groups have strong consumption potential and can assist consumption in promoting economic development.Based on their own experience,it has been found that rural elderly people are exposed to many consumption problems in their daily consumption and lack specialized consumption education. The issue of rural elderly education is not only related to the active aging of the elderly themselves, but also to the establishment of a learning society.Existing research mostly focuses on young groups with strong consumption motivation, such as primary and secondary school students,as the research objects of consumer education, and lacks corresponding exploration of rural elderly groups. With the improvement of living standards, elderly consumption deserves further attention. Therefore, this study focuses on selecting four elderly people from L Village,Weifang City,Shandong Province, with different ages, genders, education levels, and pre retirement work as the research subjects, and truthfully and in detail describing the consumption experiences of the four rural elderly people.By using research methods such as case studies, interview studies, and observational studies, this study outlines the consumption scenarios of four rural elderly people, analyzes the deep-seated reasons for their consumption difficulties, and proposes targeted and feasible educational suggestions to promote rational consumption among rural elderly people. This study is conducted from the following three aspects:Firstly, the story of four rural elderly people’s consumption is presented, which is manifested in emotional consumption, symbolic consumption, survival consumption, and mobile phone consumption, specifically manifested in blind worship and feudal superstition in emotional consumption; In terms of symbol consumption, compare and show off,and continue to live with high prices;Being greedy for small gains and blindly trusting in terms of survival and consumption;Phenomena such as network congestion and limited living conditions in terms of mobile phone consumption.Secondly, further explore the reasons for the consumption dilemma of rural elderly people, mainly from four aspects: economic scarcity, emotional scarcity, functional limitations, and lack of education.Economic scarcity is mainly reflected in backward infrastructure and a shortage of teaching staff; The emotional shortage is mainly reflected in the lack of family, friendship, and love;Functional limitations are mainly reflected in their own functional degradation, cultural level, and cognitive impact; The lack of education is mainly reflected in educational culture and mechanisms. Finally, from the perspective of adult education, this study proposes countermeasures and suggestions for implementing consumer education for rural elderly people from five aspects: government, schools, village committees, families, and individuals. On the government side: increase government control to fully guarantee the operation of consumer education; In terms of schools, encourage the establishment of schools and systematically increase the vitality of consumer education; In terms of village committee, strengthen the call of the village committee and vigorously cooperate with the implementation of consumer education; On the family side: Strengthen family support and assist in promoting consumer education;Personal aspect: Actively learn consumer educational knowledge through personal autonomy.
