The comprehensive improvement of teachers’ quality, especially their psychological quality, has always been the focus of national education requirements. In the current context of the "Double Reduction" policy highlighting the functional status of teachers, the severe challenges of career development faced by primary and secondary school teachers are very likely to cause a series of career maladjustment problems for teachers and lay hidden dangers for the healthy development of teachers’ psychological state, while the psychological health of teachers will have a direct impact on the psychological health development of students and the quality of national education. Therefore,it is necessary to explore the factors influencing teachers’ mental health from the perspective of teachers’ career adaptability.Based on the theoretical perspective of the career adaptation model and the results of relevant empirical studies, this study takes teachers’ mental health level as the adaptation outcome, and takes Future work self,a typical type of adaptation motivation in the career adaptation model,as the explanatory variable, exploring the influence mechanism between the two relationships from the perspective of the interactive constructs between individual teachers and the environment.Study 1 explores the mechanisms underlying the influence of adaptive behavior(Feedback-seeking behavior)and adaptive capacity(Career Adaptability)on the relationship between future work self clarity and teachers’ mental health level.Specifically,Study 1 was divided into two parts: Study 1a validated the chain mediation model of future work self clarity → feedback-seeking behavior → career adaptability → mental health level in cross-sectional data, and Study 1b validated the reciprocal relationship between feedback-seeking behavior and career adaptability in teachers’ career adaptation process using longitudinal data in a cross-lagged chain mediation model.Study 2 explored the moderating role of three different dimensions of paternalistic leadership in the three mediating paths of the chain mediation based on the perspective of the influence of organizational contextual variables on the career resilience process.Studies 1a and 2 used a convenience sampling method to administer questionnaires to592 primary and secondary school teachers in different areas of Guangzhou,459 of whom were female and 133 male, with a mean age of 33.14 years(SD=7.89).Study 1b conducted a6-week follow-up survey of 132 primary and secondary school teachers, including 114 females and 18 males, with a mean age of 34.49 years(SD=8.25).Through three studies, this research concluded that(1)teachers’ positive visions about their future work field regarding themselves contribute to teachers’ mental health level;(2)feedback seeking behavior and career adaptability are intrinsic influences between the relationship between future work self clarity and teachers’ mental health level;(3)the three different dimensions of parental leadership are contextual factors that influence the process of teachers’ career adjustment process.First, this study used individual teachers’ career adaptation process as a research lens to verify the positive impact of teachers’ positive vision of their future work on their level of mental health, and to verify that teachers’ adaptive behavior(feedback seeking behavior)and adaptive capacity(career adaptability)are important processes through which teachers’ motivation to adapt(future work self clarity)influences the outcome of adaptation(level of mental health);second, this The study also verified the moderating role of the three different dimensions of paternalistic leadership in the three different mediated paths of chain mediation, which contributes to the understanding of the influencing factors of teachers’ career adaptation process from an organizational contextual perspective. In conclusion, based on the career adaptation model, this study reveals the influence mechanism of personal and environmental factors on teachers’ mental health around the dynamic construct process between individual and the external organizational environment, enriches the research related to the career adaptation model and teachers’ mental health, and provides a certain scientific theoretical basis for intervention and enhancement of teachers’ mental health. This study suggests that primary and secondary school teachers should pay more positive attention to their career development, and also suggests that school leaders should grasp the influence of their own leadership behaviors on teachers’ career adjustment and psychological health, and focus on improving teachers’ career adaptability level so as to maintain teachers’ psychological health.
