| With the development and transformation of society, the phenomenon of intergenerational parenting is becoming more and more common. The formation of intergenerational parenting families in urban areas is often accompanied by life difficulties caused by the imprisonment, loss of contact, disability, and other reasons of their parents. Therefore, there is a high degree of overlap between the children of urban intergenerational parenting families and the group of children in difficult situations who are actually left unattended in China. As one of the main subjects of intergenerational families, grandchildren, especially the group of underage children, their personal development of abilities is largely influenced by the family environment. At the same time,as individuals living in society, everyone has a need for interpersonal communication, and an individual’s interpersonal adaptability is extremely important for their current and future development. At present,it is widely believed in the academic community that intergenerational interaction between grandparents and grandchildren in intergenerational parenting families has a significant impact on the interpersonal adaptation ability of children in need. However, there is still no consensus on how the behavior and relationships of intergenerational interaction between grandparents and grandchildren affect the interpersonal adaptation ability and performance of intergenerational parenting of children in need. Therefore, this study focuses on exploring the impact of intergenerational interactions between grandparents and grandchildren on interpersonal adaptation of children with intergenerational parenting difficulties. This paper is based on family system theory and social learning theory, and selects nine families of children with intergenerational parenting difficulties located in P District of S City. And the relevant empirical data were collected from grandparents and grandchildren in families with vulnerable children through semi-structured interviews and participatory observation. This paper judges the level of interpersonal adaptation of children in difficult situations from the perspective of their interpersonal communication situation, and understands the specific behaviors and relationships of intergenerational interactions between grandparents and grandchildren in the family.Based on this,it analyzes the factors and impact processes that affect the interpersonal adaptation of grandchildren in intergenerational interactions. This study has the following findings.First,in the current situation of interpersonal adaptation of vulnerable children, the results of nine grandchildren interviewed are significantly different. In contrast, two grandchildren showed relatively high levels of interpersonal adaptation in all aspects of interpersonal trust and interpersonal harmony, while the rest of the grandchildren showed some problems in some aspects more or less.Secondly,in the process of intergenerational interaction between grandparents and grandchildren, grandparents’ concept teaching, direct intervention behavior, observation and learning of grandchildren, and internalization of family interaction affect grandchildren’s interpersonal adaptation level. These factors have an impact on the interpersonal adaptation of grandchildren through three processes,namely,teaching-assimilation process,demonstration-imitation process and perception-internalization process. Finally, based on the previous analysis, the researchers proposed countermeasures and suggestions to reduce the negative impact of intergenerational interactions between grandparents and grandchildren on interpersonal adaptation of vulnerable children, from the perspectives of grandparents, schools, and society. |
