The changes in language curriculum standards have brought new challenges to the development of teaching materials and teaching practices.The GCSE Language Curriculum Standards(2017 edition)introduced and advocated for the first time the concept of teaching and learning task clusters.Under the guidance of the new curriculum standards and the new introduction of the unified senior secondary language textbooks,the teaching methods of reading current and contemporary selected texts in senior secondary languages should also change.In this paper,students are guided to improve their language learning skills and broaden their literary horizons in the reading of contemporary selections in the context of learning task clusters,with core language literacy as the outline,tasks as the guide and selected text resources as the mediator.The thesis is divided into five main sections as follows:"In the introductory part,through the literature research method and case study method,we compare the concept of learning task clusters with project-based learning and large unit teaching,and summarise the specific meaning of learning task clusters in terms of teaching methods and teaching requirements.The study of contemporary text selections is compared with the concepts of project-based learning and large-unit teaching.Secondly,Defining the concept of the contemporary selection.The first chapter presents a large-unit categorisation of contemporary texts in the UCSF language textbooks,based on the context of learning task clusters.The large units play a supportive role in advancing the teaching of contemporary texts in the context of learning task clusters.And using the classification of current contemporary selections in the context of learning task clusters as a resource base to advance research on teaching strategies for post-textuality.The second chapter is a data survey of the results through questionnaires and teacher interviews to understand the current dilemmas and causes of the teaching of current and contemporary selected texts in senior secondary languages in the context of learning task clusters.The third chapter is based on the analysis of the causes of the problems and proposes teaching principles.In the section on teaching principles,the learning task clusters related to the teaching of contemporary texts are categorised according to the similarity of the learning objectives,and the difficulty levels of the learning task clusters are summarised in the light of the teaching requirements of the eighteen learning task clusters in the new curriculum.Based on the teaching materials,the learning task clusters are integrated in terms of the teaching characteristics of the texts in the units,so that the teaching objectives of the learning task clusters are clear.Chapter 4 proposes strategies for integrating teaching resources,planning lesson types,rational design of tasks and enriching teaching evaluation in the context of learning task clusters.
