This study selects the "Gymnastics" textbooks issued by the Higher Education Press for physical education majors in colleges and universities at different periods as the research object.Through the comprehensive use of literature,expert interviews,comparative research and statistical analysis,the study compares the development history of the higher education version of "Gymnastics" textbooks in physical education majors in colleges and universities in China,and restores the background and evolution characteristics of the gymnastics textbooks written at different periods;We explore the changes and characteristics of the higher education version of Gymnastics textbooks in terms of format structure and relevant knowledge system in different periods;summarize the achievements and experiences of the higher education version of Gymnastics textbooks,and consider a series of challenges and coping strategies faced by the preparation of Gymnastics textbooks in the new era.The aim is to continuously improve and optimize the quality and effectiveness of the preparation of the teaching materials of Gymnastics for physical education majors in colleges and universities.The conclusions of the study are as follows:1.The development history of the higher education version of Gymnastics textbooks for physical education majors in China’s colleges and universities can be divided into four stages: the initial exploration stage(1978-1987);the standardized development stage(1988-1995);the stage of comprehensive quality improvement(1996-2005);and the characteristic exploration stage(2006-2015).2.There are significant differences in the form and structure of the sixth edition of the higher education textbook ’Gymnastics’ in different periods.The overall design of the first three editions of the textbook is relatively single and lacks practical application value,while the latter three editions gradually meet students’ actual needs and teaching requirements in terms of designing various system elements.3.The knowledge content system of the higher education version of the "Gymnastics" textbook is gradually streamlined,shifting from the early "large and comprehensive" to the "refined and simple" characteristics.This change is not only a result of the national education reform,but also a reflection of the textbook writers’ greater emphasis on the depth and practicality of knowledge content.4.There are similarities and differences in some knowledge content in the calendar version of gymnastics textbooks,which not only indicates that the knowledge content in the textbooks has a certain degree of inheritance and stability,but also reveals that there is still further room for improvement and innovation in the knowledge content to adapt to the constantly changing educational needs and the development of school gymnastics.5.With the new teaching concept of "curriculum ideology and politics" proposed by the country and the new standards for cultivating talents in physical education majors in universities,there have been certain differences between the current higher education version of the "Gymnastics" textbook and its requirements.
