“The Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(version 2022)” list spatial concept as one of the core concepts,it also proposes to cultivate and develop students’ spatial concept, which is in line with the needs of the times. What is the current development status of spatial concept among junior high school students? In what ways can we cultivate students’ spatial concept? These are important issues that need to be considered in geometry teaching.A spatial concept evaluation model can measure and diagnose students’ development of spatial concept, which is of great significance for teaching practice. The article adopts the research ideas and methods of the existing educational assessment models, and uses a comprehensive approach of literature analysis,Delphi method, and survey investigation method.Starting from the definition of spatial concept for junior high school students, the article constructs a spatial concept evaluation model for them. The research process and conclusions are as follows:(1)The article clarifies the connotation of spatial concept for junior high school students.By reviewing relevant literature on spatial concept, the article finds that the definition of spatial concept in the “The Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(version2022)” is more specific, refined, and comprehensive. Therefore, the definition of spatial concept in “The Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(version 2022)” is adopted as the basis for the model.(2)The article determines the assessment indexes for spatial concept among junior high school students.Based on the definition of spatial concept in the “The Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(version 2022)” and literature analysis, the initial assessment indexes for spatial concept among junior high school students were developed. To ensure the scientific validity of the assessment indexes, the Delphi method was used to consult with experts in this field in two rounds.Based on the opinions provided by the experts, the assessment indexes were revised and finalized, which include three primary indexes:objects and graphics, orientation and position, and motion and change. The objects and graphics indexes include three aspects: abstracting objects as graphics, imagining objects from graphics, and drawing graphics from verbal descriptions. The orientation and position indexes include two aspects: spatial orientation of objects and positional relationships between objects. The motion and change indexes include two aspects: motion of graphics and changes of graphics.(3)A spatial concept evaluation model for junior high school students was constructed.Based on the assessment indexes,a questionnaire was developed to assess the relative importance of each sub-indicator.Experienced experts in the field were selected to provide consultation, and Delphi method was used to calculate the weights of each level of assessment index, and thus the spatial concept evaluation model for junior high school students was constructed: = 0.3 +0.3 + 0.4, represents the spatial concept of junior high school students, represents objects and graphics, represents orientation and position, and represents motion and change.(4)The validity of the junior high school students’ spatial concept evaluation model was verified.Based on the observation points of the junior high school students’ spatial concept assessment index,a test paper for evaluating junior high school students’ spatial concepts was prepared. Two schools in Guizhou were selected for the survey. After statistical analysis, the results showed that the evaluation model was reasonable and operable. This study firstly constructed the assessment indexes and evaluation model for junior high school students’ spatial concepts.During the research process,a lot of work was done, but due to various subjective and objective factors, the sample size of the study was relatively small and the research was not geographically widespread. This can be further explored in subsequent research. In addition, the application of the assessment indexes system for spatial concepts should be strengthened in classroom teaching.
