In recent years, with the trend of national education policies towards physical education, there has been a gradual emphasis on physical education classes for young people in schools, such as the addition of sports elements in delayed services after the "double reduction" policy. The traditional physical education teaching mode is no longer able to meet the needs of students, let alone meet the requirements of cultivating students with comprehensive and healthy development under the national education system reform. How to adapt to the needs of physical education reform and change the outdated and fixed physical education teaching methods in the past. This article adopts the scaffolding teaching method combined with the teaching content of Five Step Boxing to explore new teaching modes in physical education.Among them, scaffolding teaching method is widely used in other disciplines such as language and mathematics, but it is rarely applied in the field of physical education, and the application of Five Step Boxing teaching in students’ compulsory education stage is still a blank. This article adopts a scaffolding teaching method to study the learning of Wubu Quan in middle school physical education classes. The research subjects are 80students(20 males and 20 females in each class)from two classes of the first grade of Huguan County No.1 Middle School in Changzhi City,Shanxi Province. The experimental content is Wubu Quan learning.Through literature review, expert interviews, questionnaires, mathematical statistics, and experiments, the students in two classes were tested for physical quality, psychological quality, sports skills, theoretical knowledge, sports morality,self-study ability and other indicators after 10 weeks and 40 class hours of experimental intervention with two different teaching methods, and the following conclusions were drawn by comparing the experimental data of the two classes:(1)Before and after the experiment, there was no significant difference in the physical fitness of students measured by the scaffolding teaching method of Wubu Quan and the traditional teaching method, indicating that the two teaching methods had no effect on students’ physical fitness.(2)Before and after the experiment, there was a significant difference in the students’ self-learning ability measured by the scaffolding teaching method of Wubuquan compared to the traditional teaching method. However, there was no significant difference in the traditional teaching method, indicating that the scaffolding teaching method has a significant impact on students’ self-learning ability, while the traditional teaching method has no effect.(3)Before and after the experiment, there was a significant difference in the psychological quality of students measured by the scaffolding teaching method of Wubuquan compared to the traditional teaching method. However, there was no significant difference in the traditional teaching method, indicating that the scaffolding teaching method has a significant impact on students’ psychological quality, while the traditional teaching method has no effect.(4)Before and after the experiment, there was a significant difference in the theoretical knowledge of students measured by the scaffolding teaching method and the traditional teaching method of Wubu Quan. The scaffolding teaching method was more significant, indicating that the scaffolding teaching method had a better impact on students’ theoretical knowledge than the traditional teaching method.(5)After comparing the scaffolding teaching method of Wubu Quan with the traditional teaching method,it was found that there was a significant difference in students’ physical character, and the students who used scaffolding teaching method were better than the traditional teaching method in terms of physical character.(6)After the experiment between the scaffolding teaching method of Five Step Boxing and the traditional teaching method, the students’ sports skills are significantly different, and the student movement ’sports skills using the scaffolding teaching method are obviously better than the traditional teaching method.
