China’s unique urbanization process has brought many problems while achieving achievements. The urbanization that serves the national development strategy sometimes ignores the subjectivity of human beings. The quality of urbanization is not high, and a large number of people have not realized citizenization simultaneously. The new development concept calls for changing the concept of urbanization, and the concept of the new type of urbanization arises at the historic moment.Urban renewal is one of the strategic choices, which helps to solve many problems left over in the process of urbanization. There have been many successful cases at home and abroad, and it is of universal application significance. The urban renewal of Guangzhou has been promoted for many years, among which Huangpu District is the first districtlevel reform and innovation pilot area of "three-old Renovation".In this paper,Wenchong old village reconstruction of Huangpu District, which has certain typical characteristics in Guangzhou urban renewal project,is selected as the case to conduct in-depth research, exploring the motivation, process and results of the old village reconstruction, and how it achieves the citizenization of villagers(original residents). So as to effectively promote the new type of urbanization.Lefebvre criticized the traditional view that space is just a container, and put forward the core view that "social space is the product of society"(Lefebvre,1991),arguing that space is produced under the joint action of multiple social forces. The reconstruction of the old village is a process in which the government, developers and residents, driven by their own interests, play games with each other and finally reproduce the original space of the old village and reconstruct the society. This paper uses Lefebvre’s three-in-one space production framework to analyze the reconstruction process of Wenchong old village,so as to show how the reconstruction of old village has realized the process from spatial remodeling to human reconstruction.so as to promote the new type of urbanization and complete citizenization. The main conclusions are as follows:First, there exists a basic dialectical relationship between society and space: "Society creates space but is constrained by space, and space in turn shapes social configuration".The rapid urbanization of our country made villages originally located in the edge of city surrounded by city into urban villages, which accommodated a large number of labor force absorbed by city development, and old villages supported the rapid urbanization of our country.Over time, however, this space can no longer provide much value and with many difficult problems, becomes a hindrance. In order to realize the new type of urbanization and meet the new needs of original residents in the social change, new space must be produced, thus the motivation of old village reconstruction comes into being and gradually becomes mature.Secondly, the production of space does not mean the production of the material inside the space, but the production of the space itself.Driven by their own needs, the three main parties involved in the old village reconstruction--the government, the developer and the original residents have carried out negotiations and discussions on the original old village space, and concluded that the planning and design.Through the continuous spatial practice of the reconstruction for over ten years, the material space of Wenchong old village has been greatly changed. In this process, the original residents play an important role.As the actual users of the space, the original residents do not passively accept the shaped space but participate in the reconstruction of the old village. They will continue to participate in the shaping of the space in the future, constantly put forward new demands and imagination, and carry out mutual construction with the space.Thirdly, space and its political organization represent social relations and in turn act on them. The transformation of material space means the generation of new social space,in which a new way of life and social relations are produced and social reconstruction is realized. An urban village originally housing migrant workers has been transformed into an emerging middle-class community, transforming the daily living space. The transformation of daily living space has changed the original residents’ identity cognition, living style, family structure, consumption and employment, etc. With the replacement of population, the original relatively closed social network constructed by geography and kinship will be broken, and different groups will communicate with each other to construct a new social network.Although the original residents seem to enter this process passively,in the long run, they will realize their own reconstruction and citizenization in the new space.
