Consumption is an important cornerstone of economic development. After experiencing a stage of rapid growth,China’s economy has entered the "new normal" development stage. In this environment,it is particularly important to expand consumption demand in rural areas.Rural residents’ consumption has a wide development space and sufficient consumption potential, which requires further expansion.Regarding the issue of rural consumption, attention should be paid not only to the overall consumption of rural households, but also to the rationalization of the consumption structure of rural residents.Women are playing an increasingly important and decisive role in household consumption decision-making,and their educational level affects consumption preferences and decision-making,thereby affecting consumption behavior. This article focuses on the consumption structure of rural areas, taking Shihe District,Henan Province as an example,to study the impact of rural women’s education level on the upgrading of household consumption structure and the mechanism.Firstly, this article reviews relevant literature and theoretically analyzes the impact of human capital on rural household consumption.Subsequently, using census data and relevant data from the Henan Provincial Bureau of Statistics, the author analyzed the current situation of education level and consumption structure in Shihe District, and used the author’s research data to discuss the relationship between the education level of rural women and household consumption structure in Shihe District from a statistical analysis perspective. Finally, using the author’s research data, this paper empirically tests the impact of rural women’s education level on their household consumption structure in Shihe District using the ordinary least square method, and discusses possible endogenous issues using the instrumental variable method; Moreover, the stepwise regression method is used to explore the mesomeric effect of household income. The following conclusions are drawn:Firstly, the overall educational level of Shihe District is gradually improving towards higher levels of education, but the average educational level of rural areas is significantly lower than that of urban areas.Especially when the educational level reaches junior high school, the educational level of rural women is at a lower level;Secondly, the consumption amount of rural residents in Shihe District has continued to increase, and the consumption structure of rural residents in Shihe District has always been in a state of continuous optimization, with the proportion of enjoyable consumption in total consumption continuing to rise;Thirdly, the empirical analysis results show that the improvement of education level of rural women in Shihe District can enhance total consumption and promote the upgrading of their household consumption structure;Fourth, through the analysis of the mesomeric effect,it can be seen that the education level of rural women in Shihe District will promote the upgrading of household consumption structure by improving household income.Based on the above conclusions, this article proposes the following recommendations: First, further strengthen the investment in rural women’s education in Shihe District;Secondly, strengthen the construction of digital villages and broaden the channels for farmers’ income and consumption;Third, formulate differentiated consumption policies based on household policies. |
