The creation of effective learning contexts that are conducive to students’ work is a necessary part of students’ core literacy development,a necessary requirement for implementing curriculum standards,and a useful attempt to teach work.In the current practice of teaching composition,there is a lack of attention to the learning context.Some teachers only focus on the use of language,treating the teaching of composition as point-by-point knowledge and skills training,without paying attention to the key issue of the teaching of composition itself,namely the students’ real experience of the process of composition in the learning context.In light of the above study,this study investigates the learning contexts of primary school language exercises based on contextual cognition and learning theory and authentic writing theory,using literature analysis,theoretical research,text analysis and lesson analysis as the basic methods.Firstly,the study makes a basic theoretical analysis of the connotation,types,characteristics and principles of using primary school language learning contexts,and comes up with four elements of primary school language learning contexts:task-driven,knowledge construction,life practice and interactive cooperation.The study then uses the textual analysis method to analyse the exercise sections and exercise units of the Unified Edition primary language textbooks for Grades 3to 6,summarising the characteristics of the exercise arrangements and the presentation of the elements of the exercise learning contexts in the textbooks.It also focuses on the textual content related to exercises in the curriculum standards,and raises awareness of the curriculum and the consciousness of implementing the language curriculum objectives.Secondly,the study used a lesson analysis method,incorporating two excellent teaching practicals,My Animal Friend from Unit 1 of the second book of Year 4,taught by Zhang Zuqing,a special teacher from Zhejiang Province,and I Want to Tell You from Unit 6 of the first book of Year 5,taught by Wu Yong,a special teacher from Jiangsu Province,to find out how excellent teachers use the four elements of an exercise learning context.Finally,the study found that the design of learning contexts in primary school composition teaching practice is essential.The four elements of the learning contexts are task-driven,providing a ’starting point’ for the learning contexts;knowledge construction,providing a ’fixed point’ for the learning contexts;life practice,providing a ’focus’ for the learning contexts;and task-driven,providing a ’focus’ for the learning contexts.The students will also be able to learn how to use their own knowledge and skills to help them learn to write.This is to provide better guidance on the practice of writing and to promote the optimisation of the practice of writing.
