Imagination is an important ability in children’s growth process and is the basis for developing their creativity as well as fostering innovative thinking.The elementary school stage is an important period for cultivating children’s imagination,stimulating the creative spirit and enriching their personality through cultivating their imagination.The Language Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)(hereinafter referred to as "Language Curriculum Standards")states in its general objectives that students should develop the ability to actively observe and perceive life,develop their imagination,stimulate their creative talents,improve their language expression and creativity based on rich language experience,and enhance their imaginative thinking skills,and refine the requirements for imagination development in the subsequent sub-objectives of each school level.In the subsequent sub-objectives,the requirements for the development of imagination are more detailed for each school level.The ancient poems play an important role in cultivating students’ imagination,and the teaching of ancient poems should pay attention to the cultivation of students’ imagination and stimulate their infinite imagination.This study is based on the Ministry of Education’s unified(hereinafter referred to as "the ministerial version")elementary school language textbooks,and is conducted on the basis of literature research and interview method,with the case study method.The study is divided into four parts.The study is divided into four main parts,as follows:The first part is the introduction.From the importance of cultivating children’s imagination and the requirements of language curriculum standards,we clarify the background of the study and the purpose and significance of the study.The study will review the relevant literature at home and abroad,and review the cultivation of children’s imagination and the teaching of ancient poems in elementary school.Identify the research ideas and research methods and define the core concepts of middle grade elementary school students,teaching ancient poetry in elementary school,and imagination cultivation of middle grade elementary school students.Sartre’s theory of literary imagination,Ethel’s theory of the structure of invocation,and Harris’ theory of children’s imagination are elaborated,and the relevance of using these theories to study the teaching of ancient poetry for the imagination development of middle elementary school students is analyzed to lay the theoretical foundation for this study.The second part is a case study.Taking the teaching of ancient poems in the middle grades of elementary schools as the main site of the study,two cases of teaching ancient poems are selected,and an attempt is made to construct the dimensions of the case study in terms of teaching objectives,teaching process and teaching effects,so as to gain an in-depth understanding of the current situation of students’ imagination cultivation in teaching ancient poems in the middle grades of elementary schools.The third part summarizes the problems and conducts a cause analysis.On the basis of the case study,the current problems of students’ imagination cultivation in teaching ancient poems in the middle grades of elementary schools are summarized:unclear teaching objectives,unclear teaching process,and inconspicuous teaching effects.To this end,the reasons behind the problems are explored in terms of awareness,methods and evaluation: weak cultivation awareness,lack of cultivation methods and lack of evaluation.The fourth part is the countermeasures to strengthen the cultivation of imagination.In response to the problems found in the teaching process,the countermeasures are proposed based on relevant theories in conjunction with the requirements of curriculum standards,including: strengthening the concept of elementary school students’ imagination cultivation,following the rules of elementary school students’ imagination cultivation and improving the evaluation of elementary school students’ imagination cultivation.
