Adolescents in middle school are undergoing great physical and mental changes. They face multiple pressures.Among them, academic pressure affects adolescent middle school students even more.Social work can play an active role in this regard, promoting the healthy development of young people, discovering their potential and helping them to relieve academic stress in a scientific way.The study was based on Tangshan N Junior High School, using group work method, social support theory, strengths perspective theory and empowerment theory as the theoretical basis.Eight junior high school students were selected as the subjects of the study. The group held a total of seven activities at a frequency of once a week for one and a half months. At the end of the group,pre-and post-measurement forms, interview transcripts of group members, and self-assessment by social workers were used to analyze the process and results. The activities helped the group members to correctly perceive academic stress, learn scientific methods and techniques to relieve stress, help them to reasonably reduce stress, and help them to enhance their self-confidence by discovering and finding their strengths, while helping their parents to change their unreasonable educational concepts through parent-child interaction and participation of school teachers, thus indirectly achieving the purpose of academic stress relief.By using group activities to closely observe the changes and interpersonal relationships of group members and establish a good peer group support network, social worker as a bridge between junior high school students, parents and school teachers for resource integration can also enable efficient problem solving, while enhancing the interaction among the three parties is conducive to the formation of a more comprehensive social support network and efficient academic stress relief for junior high school students. Finally, this study provides a reference for the idea and case study of the "family-social worker-school" support model for group work intervention in middle school students’ academic stress management.
