Vernacular literature exudes a strong local flavour and contains a rich regional culture,which helps to cultivate students’ aesthetic awareness of reading and enhance their sense of cultural identity.However,in language teaching,its vernacular characteristics and cultural connotations are often overlooked by teachers.It is therefore particularly important to explore how the unique charm and cultural connotations of vernacular literature can be presented in teaching.This thesis explores the teaching of vernacular literature in junior high school with the goal of nurturing people through folk culture,with the aim of enabling students to recognise the "earthy flavour" of vernacular literature through folklore,and to be taught from it,so as to implement the fundamental task of establishing moral education.Firstly,we take the vernacular literature of the junior high school language as the object of study and summarise its teaching value.At the same time,based on Zhong Jingwen’s theoretical knowledge of folklore,the folk culture in junior high school vernacular literature is classified according to material folklore,spiritual folklore,social folklore and linguistic folklore.Then,through the questionnaire survey method and case study method,the current teaching status of junior high school vernacular literature is investigated and its problems are summarised: students are alienated from the vernacular and lack vernacular practice;teachers have a weak sense of vernacular,vernacular culture is not sufficiently interpreted,teaching forms are homogenised and procedural,and overall teaching is neglected,failing to achieve the goal of nurturing people with culture.Next,the necessity of folk culture for nurturing people is analysed,as well as the nurturing value of folk culture in terms of the spirit of struggle,pragmatism,humanistic literacy,moral character and aesthetic literacy.Finally,according to the actual situation of language teaching,the teaching principles for implementing the goal of nurturing people through folk culture in the teaching of vernacular literature are proposed,and corresponding teaching suggestions are made in response to the problems: teachers should pay attention to folk culture,integrate the content of teaching vernacular literature based on core literacy,innovate teaching forms,and guide students to get close to the vernacular.The text is also selected as a representative vernacular text for teaching design,with a view to triggering widespread concern among researchers and front-line teachers for vernacular literature and local folk culture in junior high schools,so that its nurturing value can be further realised.
