| With the booming economy and growing cultural confidence in China, more and more overseas students are choosing to return home after their studies. After adapting to the culture of their host countries, international students will face the problem of reverse culture shock after returning to their home countries, which will lead to many maladjustment phenomena. As the most popular information media, social media is an important channel for returning students to establish social circles and obtain information. At present, the research on the reverse culture shock and cultural readjustment of Chinese students returning to China is relatively weak, and there is a lack of research on the influence of the use of social media on the cultural readjustment of returning students.Based on Berry’s acculturation theory and “use and satisfaction” theory, this study uses the in-depth interview method to study the influence of social media use and choice on the acculturation of returning international students in Europe and America. This study summarizes the cultural adaptation and social media use of international students before and after they return to their home countries by conducting in-depth interviews with 36 international students who have lived and studied in Europe and America for more than three years, and the relationship between cultural adaptation strategies and social media use is also studied based on this study.Based on this, the relationship between acculturation strategies and social media use is investigated, and the motivation and intensity of social media use are analyzed. The study found that returning international students adopt different attitudes and strategies on cultural adaptation, which may result in differences in social media use;although domestic and foreign social media are not mutually exclusive, native social media facilitate individuals’ cultural adaptation;returning international students can dissipate their cultural maladjustment through social media and reflect their cultural readjustment, which reflects that social media This reflects the mediating role of social media in the process of cultural readjustment. In addition, both the motivation and intensity of social media use affect the process of cultural readjustment, and over-reliance on social media can have a negative impact on returning students. |
