| Deceptive behavior is usually regarded as a means to obtain personal gain, and is regarded as a typical immoral behavior, which is not tolerated by social norms. In campus life, deceptive behaviors of students are common, and if they are not properly guided,it will inevitably be detrimental to their physical and mental development.Previous studies have found that individuals who have experienced self-depletion,due to the decline of self-control ability, are difficult to resist the self-interest brought by deception,so as to make more deceptive behaviors.Willpower belief is an individual’s understanding and view on the application of willpower in work and life.Research shows that willpower belief can regulate self-depletion effect. However,it is still unknown whether willpower belief can play a regulatory role in the impact of self-depletion on junior middle school students’ deceptive behavior. Therefore, this study takes junior high school students as the research object, investigates the influence of self-depletion and willpower belief on junior high school students’ deceptive behavior through three experiments, and puts forward corresponding educational countermeasures to prevent junior high school students’ deceptive behavior.Study 1 examined the effect of self-depletion on deceptive behavior of junior high school students.A single-factor between-subject experimental design was adopted, the independent variable was the degree of self-depletion(high/low)of the subjects, and the dependent variable was the behavioral results of the subjects(the number of times of deceptive, the number of times of deceptive tendency). The results showed that compared with the low self-depletion group, the subjects in the high self-depletion group showed more deceitful behaviors and deceptive tendencies.Study 2 examined the effects of measured willpower beliefs and self-depletion on deceptive behavior among junior high school students.A two-factor between-subject experimental design of 2(measured willpower beliefs: non-limited/limited)×2(self-depletion level: high/low)was used. The results show that:the main effect of self-depletion is significant;the main effect of measured willpower belief is significant;the interaction effect of the two is significant.Through further simple effect analysis,it is found that in the high self-depletion group, the deceitful behavior and deception tendency of individuals who identify with the belief of non-limited willpower are significantly lower than those of individuals who identify with the belief of limited willpower;while in the low self-depletion group, there is no significant difference between the two.Study 3 examined the effects of manipulative willpower beliefs and self-depletion on deceptive behavior among junior high school students.A two-factor between-subject experimental design of 2(willpower belief manipulation: non-limited/limited)× 2(self-depletion level: high/low)was used. The results show that the main effect of self-depletion is significant;the main effect of manipulated willpower belief is significant;the interaction effect of the two is significant.Through further simple effect analysis,it is found that in the high self-depletion group, the deceitful behavior and deception tendency of individuals in the manipulative identification with non-limited willpower belief are significantly less than those in the manipulation identification with limited willpower belief;while in the low self-depletion group, there is no significant difference between the two.Research conclusions:(1)Self-depletion will increase the deceitful behavior of junior high school students.(2)Both measured willpower beliefs and manipulated willpower beliefs can regulate the self-depleting effect of individuals, thereby affecting the deceptive behavior of junior high school students.According to the results of this study, the following educational countermeasures are put forward:(1)respond actively and try our best to reduce the negative impact of self-depletion on students;(2)Optimize understanding and strengthen the cultivation of students’ belief in non-limited willpower;(3)Take multiple measures to effectively reduce the deceptive behavior of junior high school students. |
