| It has been 13 years since the Ministry of Education issued the "Study in China Plan" in September 2010.During the past 13 years, the number of foreign students studying in China has increased year by year, and universities are the places where foreign students live for a long time after entering China. However, due to the differences between foreign students’ native culture and Chinese culture,as well as the lack of corresponding social support networks, campus adaptation issues often become the primary issue faced by foreign students in China. If the issue of campus adaptation of international students coming to China is not taken seriously,it can lead to foreign students being unable to adapt to campus life and being forced to opt out of school. In serious cases,it can lead to psychological depression, self abuse, and even violations of Chinese laws. With the change of epidemic control policies, the number of international students applying for admission to China has resumed its previous growth trend. Therefore, practical exploration to address the issue of campus adaptation of international students from universities in China is imminent.J institute is one of the earliest vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province to recruit international students to China.International students in Nanjing have encountered some cross-cultural adaptation problems in campus adaptation. This study focuses on the feasibility of solving the campus adaptability problems of international students from J institute in Nanjing through group work.On the one hand, the research aims to provide reference opinions for expanding the theoretical practice of migrant social work, and enrich the practical exploration of migrant social work related to campus adaptation of international students coming to China. On the other hand,it provides universities and government departments with reference opinions on management services for foreign students in China, and cultivates foreign students who "know China, close China, and love China.".In the early stage of this study, data were collected through participatory observation, unstructured interview, and questionnaire survey methods to summarize the basic status quo, campus adaptation issues, and service needs of J institute ’s international students in Nanjing. After comprehensive evaluation, six international students with serious campus adaptation problems were selected as service targets for group work. The goal of the group is to establish that more than half of the group members can overcome barriers to cross-cultural adaptation and acquire crosscultural adaptation skills;Over half of the team members enrich their social networks on campus, integrate into various activities on campus, and expand their social circle.Six group activities were conducted for language adaptation, psychological adaptation, interpersonal adaptation, cultural adaptation, and academic adaptation, including "Gathering in Nanjing","Everyone to Find Differences ","Exploring Campus","Visiting Zhenghe Road Again","Chinese and Foreign Food Culture Show",and "Major Sharing Meeting".Six group members were assessed using the Zhu Guohui Social Adaptation Scale and the Hamilton Depression Scale. Both quantitative and qualitative effectiveness evaluations showed that the depression level and social support of the six team members had improved a little. Finally,it provides professional reflection on the conclusion and suggestions of group intervention, and puts forward relevant suggestions to help international students in China adapt to campus from the perspective of social work.To sum up,it is feasible and necessary for this study to engage in the exploration of campus adaptability of international students in China through group work.At the same time,it is noted that the campus adaptation of foreign students to China in this study is a one-way active adaptation to different cultures from the perspective of foreign students. Therefore,it is also necessary to improve the campus adaptation ability of foreign students to China from multiple perspectives. |
