At present,the metaphor behind global large-scale sports events is the sense of belonging and competitiveness of countries and nations.Under the trend of counter-globalization,sports events are more likely to be given national and ethnic identity by the public,and online populism is more likely to breed,leading to the generation of sports public opinion crisis.By analyzing the public opinion crisis of the Tokyo Olympics,this study explores the development and dissemination rules of public opinion crisis,and provides corresponding reference for the public opinion response of large-scale sports events.This study uses the literature method,the case study method and the textual sentiment analysis method to conduct the research.By using Python crawler technology,the public opinion data and texts of the Tokyo Olympic Games cycle were crawled and compiled through the public opinion monitoring big data platforms,such as Qingbo Public Opinion,Zhiwei Data and Hot Search Engine.Sixteen typical public opinion crisis events were selected as the research objects,and the 16 public opinion crisis events were classified into the categories of event performance,national awareness,operation and management,and social negativity according to the classification and grading method of public opinion events to ensure that they can objectively and accurately reflect the public opinion crisis situation of the Tokyo Olympics.Through the classification analysis and overall study of the public opinion crisis events of the Tokyo Olympic Games,the characteristics and causes of the public opinion events are explored and corresponding public opinion crisis response strategies are proposed by combining the life cycle theory and group polarization theory.The research results show that(1)different types of public opinion crises in the Tokyo Olympics have unique and common features.Public opinion crises in the category of competition results are significant,emotional and populist;those in the category of national consciousness are national and sensitive;and operation management public opinion crisis events are complex and large-scale.The results of the study show that(1)different types of public opinion crises in the Tokyo Olympics have unique and common features.Public opinion crises in the category of performance are significant,emotional and populist;those in the category of national awareness are national and sensitive;those in the category of operation and management are complex and large-scale;and those in the category of social negativity are circled and persistent.By analyzing the overall public opinion trends,their public opinion events also present common features,including the diversity of communication channels,the wide range of audience groups,the complexity of communication contents,the suddenness of public opinion events,and the rapidity of communication.(2)Different types of public opinion crises of the Tokyo Olympic Games have different factors at different stages,but their factors of public opinion generation are common.During the latent stage,the hidden factors gradually converge;during the development stage,netizens’ ideas collide with each other;during the maturity stage,the issues are deeply discussed and fermented;during the dissipation stage,the focus of audience gradually shifts.The common factors of public opinion generation: from the basic elements of public opinion,including the wide sports network audience,prominent media events,the Internet platform of multi-channel public opinion dissemination and the communication environment of sports pan-politicization;from the objective environment,including the international public opinion communication pattern of "the West is strong and we are weak",the influence of the new coronary pneumonia epidemic and the application of media technology in the new media environment.The objective environment includes the international public opinion communication pattern of " strong in the west and weak in the east",the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic and the application of media technology in the new media.The study found that the public opinion crisis response strategies for the Tokyo Olympics have their own focus at different stages of public opinion crisis development.(1)The latent stage of public opinion is based on prevention and monitoring: the government,sports organizations and the media should monitor public opinion and plan for the event well in advance.(2)Tracking and guidance during the public opinion development period: Relevant departments should strengthen tracking and monitoring,establish a "four-in-one" gatekeeping system,control online rumors,online violence and other related comments in a timely manner,implement online accountability mechanisms,actively play the role of "sports stars" and opinion leaders,and positively guide them.and opinion leaders to guide sports public opinion positively and control the development of public opinion.(3)Publicity and implementation are the main focus during the maturity period: Relevant government departments should actively respond to audience concerns,avoid the "ostrich mentality",implement relevant matters in a timely manner,and take intervention measures to resolve public opinion risks in a timely manner.(4)Summarize and improve public opinion during the dissipation period: On the one hand,they should continue to monitor public opinion to avoid secondary public opinion crisis,on the other hand,they should summarize the development rules and response process of public opinion crisis,scientifically assess the risks of the event,formulate corresponding public opinion response assessment mechanism,and improve the sports public opinion response mechanism.(5)In responding to sports public opinion crisis,it is not only necessary to focus on the public opinion event itself,but also to explore the latent crisis behind the positive public opinion event.
