| The top level of national education is doctoral education,whose educational level also directly affects China’s core competitiveness.The willingness of academic master students in local universities to pursue doctoral studies is related to their ability to embark on the academic path and future development direction,as well as to the quality of graduate education.In this context,exploring the intention of academic master students in local universities to pursue doctoral degrees has both academic and practical value.Based on cultural capital theory,human capital theory,and total quality management theory,using research methods such as questionnaire survey and interview survey,and taking academic master’s students from four local universities in Chongqing as research objects,an empirical study was conducted using a random sampling method on 305 academic master’s students from local universities.The "Interview Outline for Academic Master Students’ Willingness to Study for Doctoral Studies in Local Universities" was compiled,and in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 academic master students in local universities using a stratified sampling method.Through research,it is found that there is a deviation between the proportion of academic master’s degree students in local universities and their actual doctoral degree rate,and their doctoral degree willingness is in a dynamic process of change.Among them,there are differences among students who are willing to study for a doctoral degree in their motivation to study for a doctoral degree and their choice of tutors at the doctoral level;There are also differences in the reasons for students who are unwilling to pursue a PhD,as well as the nature of their ideal unit,expected monthly salary,and choice of work area.At the same time,there are significant differences in the willingness to pursue doctoral studies among academic master’s students in local universities with individual characteristics such as gender,discipline,parents’ education level,and doctoral degree;There are also significant differences in the willingness of academic master’s students in local universities to study for doctoral programs among their academic performance,such as the number of scientific research projects and the number of papers issued.Through binary logistic regression analysis,it is found that the factors that affect the willingness of academic master students in local universities to study for a doctoral degree mainly include nine aspects:academic potential,academic environment,investment in studying for a doctoral degree,income from studying for a doctoral degree,interaction between tutors and students,family background,gender,discipline,and doctoral degree,and the impact of different factors varies.In response to the current situation,that academic master students in local universities have significant differences in their willingness to pursue doctoral programs and are constantly changing due to various factors,suggestions are made to help students clarify their own development paths and improve the quality of graduate student training.Field change:social regulation and policy support;University engine:organizational optimization and service improvement;Returning to ambition:academic roots and professional cognition. |
