Building a new model of local social governance is a new field of "Chinese governance" at the present stage.In social governance,the innovation of grass-roots governance is the ba sis of realizing the modernization of national governance capacity.After the reform and openi ng up,China has entered a deep transition period,with opportunities and challenges symbios is.At the same time,economic development has brought continuous social differentiation,an d the urban social system has gradually produced a large scale of old communities in the pro cess of rapid urbanization.Affected by its complex governance background,such communiti es have become important service objects for improving urban grass-roots governance,and a re the micro context of urban social system.As an important subject of community governanc e in the new era,residents can participate in the governance of old communities in an orderly and effective way under the complex governance background,which has become the interna l need to solve the difficulties in the construction of a new grass-roots community governanc e pattern.However,in reality,in the process of community governance,residents in old com munities are limited by their own insufficient participation ability,and there are many proble ms such as self-management,service,organization,supervision,etc.,which become a realisti c obstacle to effectively improving the autonomy level of old communities.Therefore,in the process of governance of old communities,only by breaking the limitations of residents’ abil ity to participate in community affairs,stimulating the endogenous motivation of residents’ p articipation in governance,and improving the platform conditions for residents’ participation in autonomy,can new governance of old communities enter a virtuous cycle.Based on the perspective of social work,this study intervenes in the improvement of res idents’ autonomy ability in old communities by means of group work,and seeks ways to imp rove residents’ autonomy ability.To this end,this study goes deep into old communities and a nalyzes the current situation of residents’ autonomy in X community through field observatio n,investigation and interview of X community.From the four aspects of residents’ participati on ability,self-supervision ability,organization and management ability,and self-service abil ity,the current demand for improvement of residents’ autonomy ability in X community is su mmarized as follows:Enhance the ability of communication and expression,strengthen the a bility to abide by norms,grasp the ability of teamwork and develop the ability to integrate re sources.Based on the empowerment theory,social learning theory and social support theory,a growth group with X community residents as the main body and the goal of improving thei r autonomy ability was developed according to the needs of residents’ ability improvement.T hrough seven group activities,the team members were helped to improve their ability of org anization,management and service needed to participate in residents’ self-governance,build confidence in autonomy,establish a sense of ownership,encourage residents to actively parti cipate in community public affairs,and enhance their sense of belonging and identity to X co mmunity.Finally,this paper conducts in-depth professional reflection on the whole group int ervention process of this study,analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the group’s wo rk in the practical application process,and puts forward relevant suggestions on the long-ter m development of residents’ self-governance ability,so as to promote residents to achieve th e ability level of orderly and effective participation in community governance,so as to innov ate the governance of old communities and build a new model of local social grass-roots gov ernance.
