POE(predict-observe-explain)teaching mode which can fully mobilize the subjectivity of students is widely used in the research of conceptual transformation and the improvement of scientific thinking,but the research on cultivating students’ scientific inquiry ability in biological experiments is relatively few.Based on this,this paper applies the POE teaching model to the exploratory experimental teaching,and adopts the multievaluation method to explore the influence of the model on the students’ scientific inquiry ability.Through the exploratory experimental teaching of high school biology based on the POE model,it is expected to improve teachers’ experimental teaching methods and students’ learning methods,improve students’ enthusiasm and initiative in classroom participation,cultivate students’ scientific inquiry ability,and enrich the biology case study of experimental teaching based on POE model.The main research content are as follows:1.Using the Literature Research Method,this paper sorts out the research status of scientific inquiry ability and POE teaching mode at home and abroad,defines the concepts of POE teaching mode,scientific inquiry ability and inquiry-based experimental teaching,and analyzes the internal consistency of POE teaching mode and inquiry-based experimental teaching,which provides a theoretical basis for the development of this paper’s practical research.2.Using the eight dimensions of scientific inquiry ability evaluation,the“Questionnaire on the Status Quo of High School Students’ Biological Scientific Inquiry Ability” was compiled.The questionnaire was used to investigate the current situation of high school students’ scientific inquiry ability in practice schools and analyze the data,and draws the conclusion that the first-year students have certain scientific inquiry ability,but the overall level is not high,and the development of each element is uneven.Based on this,the author puts forward several strategies for cultivating students’ scientific inquiry ability under the POE teaching mode.(1)Teaching strategies for the prediction link:(1)Based on pre-student concepts and focus on creating problem situations;(2)Do pre-experiments in advance and avoid students’ blind predictions;(3)Inspire students to design experiments and encourage students to express and communicate.(2)Teaching strategies for the observation link:(1)Set up observability indicators,establish a scientific and realistic attitude of students;(2)Highlight students’ subjectivity and pay attention to cooperation among students;(3)Train experimental skills and guide students to observe key points.(3)Teaching strategies in the explanation link:(1)Reflect and evaluate the experimental plan,process and results,and guide students to make reasonable explanations;(2)Expand relevant knowledge and realize the transformation of concepts;(3)Cultivate the ability of written expression.3.Using the Action Reseacher Method and Teaching Practice Method,Several POE study sheets of teaching segments were designed,two homogenous level classes were selected for teaching practice in the first grade.Two methods of field observation and paperpencil test were used to evaluate the students’ scientific inquiry ability level,and the students’ pre-test and post-test scores were statistically analyzed.The following conclusions were drawn: POE teaching mode can significantly improve students’ ability to ask questions,conjecture and hypothesize,and explain and draw conclusions.There was no significant effect on the ability to collect evidence,conduct experiments,express and communicate,make plans and reflect and evaluate.Regardless of whether it is an experimental class or a control class,after one semester of experimental teaching,the level of scientific inquiry ability has improved,which shows that experimental teaching is an effective means to improve scientific inquiry ability.
