| In recent years,the state and government departments have been issuing policy documents to promote the development of medical social work.In China,medical social work is rapidly developing in regions such as North,Guangzhou and Shenzhen.With the national attention and regional practice,the demand for medical social work professionals in China has increased,and the training of medical social work professionals has become urgent.In the whole process of training medical social work professionals,medical social work internship plays a very important role.The internship is a way to test and practice theoretical knowledge,and it is also one of the ways for students to enter the professional medical field to carry out medical social work services.This study adopts participant observation method,self-administered questionnaires,semi-structured interviews and other data collection methods to collect relevant data from the standpoint of medical social work interns,taking the identification process of medical and nursing staff in the department of W hospital for medical social work interns as an example,and finds that the main task of the hospital department is to treat diseases and save lives,and currently,the focus of medical and nursing staff is still mainly on the physical diseases of patients,with little attention to patients’ needs other than illness.Influenced by multiple factors such as schools,hospitals,medical and nursing staffs and interns themselves,especially the four reasons of unclear role orientation due to institutional deficiencies,ineffective work due to unclear role orientation,insufficient recognition of medical social work methods by medical and nursing staffs,and the limited resources of medical social work interns themselves,medical social work interns have gained low recognition in their internship units,which This has considerably affected the confidence of social work students in the profession and the deep development of medical social work.This study actively explored effective action strategies for medical social work interns to gain recognition from departmental medical staff.At the early stage of the internship-supervision relationship,school leaders assessed the selection of appropriate internship departments and continuously negotiated and communicated with medical and nursing staff during the development of the internship,and the attention of school leaders to the interns paved the way for entering the departments and gaining acceptance.In the middle stage of the establishment of the internship and guidance relationship,the interns take the initiative to improve their professional ability and initially win the approval of the medical and nursing staff by learning basic medical knowledge,learning excellent cases and supplementing medical knowledge with the medical and nursing staff of the department,and taking the initiative to communicate with the medical and nursing staff of the department in the internship continuously to establish the relationship.At the later stage of the establishment of the internship-supervision relationship,group work was conducted as a means to demonstrate the effectiveness of the professional approach to social work and to further promote communication and contact between the interns and the medical and nursing staff,to effectively enhance the medical and nursing staff’s knowledge of the functions of medical social work,and to further increase the medical and nursing staff’s recognition of social work and the interns.The three stages from the establishment of the internship-mentoring relationship in a step-by-step manner and the adoption of multiple measures in stages can effectively enhance the medical social work interns’ recognition of medical social work interns.This study suggests that in the future,we can further enhance medical social work interns’ recognition of social work internships by establishing a scientific professional internship training system,improving medical social work interns’ own resources,and giving full play to interns’ supervisory motivation. |
