School education is the most important form of education, and examination is an important way to test the achievements of school education. However, with the increasing competitive pressure, students have different test anxiety levels, usually manifested as psychological anxiety, nervousness, fear and other negative emotions during the test. This affects students’ academic performance and may damage their physical and mental health and affect their physical and mental development. Many factors may affect students’ test anxiety. For example, ranking scores after the test may enhance the social comparison between students, make students have a greater psychological burden, and aggravate test anxiety. In order to understand the relationship between test anxiety and social comparison of junior high school students and the underlying psychological mechanism, this study investigated the relationship between general social comparison and academic, social comparison(including upward academic comparison and downward academic identification),self-esteem and test anxiety with 284 students in the first, second and third day of junior high school as survey samples. To explore how to reduce students’ test anxiety more effectively, this study also conducted an intervention study on 128 students with a certain degree of test anxiety on the first day of junior high school.Sixty-four of them were used as the control group to carry out routine psychological teaching activities; With another 64 students as the experimental group, the self-esteem group assisted intervention was integrated into the psychological teaching activities to explore whether the students’ test anxiety could be improved more effectively by improving their self-esteem.The following conclusions are drawn:(1)The overall self-esteem level of junior high school students is above the middle level, and there is no significant difference in gender, grade and whether the only child or not.(2)General social comparison and downward academic identification have no significant differences in gender and whether or not they are only children; The general social comparison has differences in grades, while the upward academic comparison has no significant differences in grades and whether the only child is born or not,but has significant gender differences. The academic upward comparison level of girls is significantly higher than that of boys.(3)The test anxiety of junior high school students is generally at the lower middle level. There is no significant difference in gender and grade, but there is a difference in whether they are only children. The test anxiety of non-only children is higher than that of only children.(4)Whether it is a general social comparison or an academic social comparison, social comparison can significantly negatively predict self-esteem and positively predict test anxiety.Self-esteem plays a partial intermediary role in social comparison and test anxiety.(5)The psychological teaching activities combined with self-esteem league intervention can improve individual self-esteem and test anxiety more effectively.Because of this, the mental health education of junior high school students can improve the students’ test anxiety more effectively by incorporating some self-esteem league auxiliary interventions into the psychological teaching activities to promote students’ healthy development.
