| Learning burnout refers to the negative behavior that students gradually lose interest in learning under high academic pressure, showing laziness, disappointment, anxiety and depression in the learning process as well as gradually avoid interacting with others. All of these behaviors are,to some extent, affected by academic social comparisons. Some studies have shown that the direction of comparison and downward comparison as well as self-deprecation have a positive relation with learning burnout, while self-improvement and upward comparison have a negative relation with learning burnout. After entering junior middle school, students’ self-awareness begins to change dramatically, and they tend to form their own evaluation by comparing themselves with others. In the process, people with higher self-esteem prefer to set excellent people as objects.Through comparison, the positive emotions of "I want to be like him too" can be aroused and the sense of learning burnout can be reduced.According to the study of seniors, the three variables of academic social comparison,self-esteem and learning burnout are related with each other, but the mechanism between them is still unclear. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relevance between academic social comparison, learning burnout and self-esteem,then to further explore the mediating role of self-esteem in academic social comparison and learning burnout. In this study,399 junior high school students were tested by using the Middle School Students’ Academic and Social Comparison Questionnaire,self-esteem Scale and Middle School Students’ Learning Burnout Scale,and364 valid questionnaires were collected.SPSS 20.0 and the plugin PROCESSv3.0 were used to analyze the data, and the following conclusions were drawn on this basis:Junior middle school students’ learning burnout has no significant difference in gender and whether they are the only child or not. There are significant differences in the aspect of whether they are class cadre or not.The learning burnout of students who are class cadre are significantly lower than those who are not.Junior high school students’ learning burnout is significantly different in grades, and senior students experience more learning burnout than junior students. There were significant correlations between social comparison,self-esteem and burnout.Specifically, there was a significant positive correlation between upward comparison,self-improvement and self-esteem,and a significant negative correlation between upward comparison,self-improvement and learning burnout.Downward comparison and self-debasement have a significant negative relevance to self-esteem and a significant positive relevance to learning burnout.Self-esteem in learning burnout has significantly negative prediction function.Self-esteem of junior high school students plays a part of mediating role in academic and social comparison and learning burnout.Academic and social comparison not only has direct influence on learning burnout, but also has indirect influence on learning burnout through self-esteem. |
