In recent years, with the introduction of "Western Development","Western Plan" and other related policies, the development of western economy has become a key part of China’s economic development. The unique geographical location, social and political environment of the western region has led to different development characteristics from those of the whole country. The unique tourism resources and environment promote the development of the tourism industry, and the rapid development of the tourism industry makes it an important driving force for the economic development of the western region.Along with the development of tourism industry, the agglomeration of tourism industry in western provinces and regions has gradually increased in different degrees, which may empower the development of tourism industry on the one hand;on the other hand,it may also intensify the disparity of economic development in western provinces and regions,so the agglomeration of tourism industry has become an area worthy of in-depth study. Therefore,it is important to study the relationship between tourism industry agglomeration and tourism economic growth in the western region and their respective development trends,in order to study the sustainable development of tourism industry in the western region and reduce the economic development gap between regions. However,in the existing studies,to what extent is the tourism industry agglomeration in the western provinces and regions? To what extent is the tourism economic growth in western provinces and regions affected by tourism industry agglomeration? There is relatively little research on the extent to which the direct and indirect effects of tourism industry agglomeration on tourism economic growth in different provinces and regions. This paper explores these issues in relation to the actual situation of tourism industry agglomeration and tourism economic growth in the western region, and helps to provide a deeper understanding of the current situation and problems of tourism industry development in the western region at this stage. This study firstly proposes the hypothesis that the tourism industry in the western region also has industrial agglomeration based on the phenomenon of tourism industry agglomeration in the whole country, and then takes the twelve western provinces and regions as the research objects, selects the relevant data of the twelve western provinces and regions from2004 to 2020,measures the tourism industry agglomeration and tourism economic growth level of the twelve western provinces and regions in these seventeen years using the method of location entropy, and draws the tourism industry agglomeration and tourism economic spatial change maps in four different years of 2005,2010,2015 and 2020 using Arcgis software.Secondly, how tourism industry agglomeration affects tourism economic growth is analyzed from the theoretical level.Again, the impact of tourism industry agglomeration on tourism economic growth is analyzed empirically by constructing a spatial weight matrix of economic geographic distance and by selecting a spatial Durbin model under spatial fixed effects. Finally, according to the empirical results, the corresponding research conclusions are drawn and corresponding countermeasures and suggestions are proposed. The following conclusions can be drawn from the results of the empirical study.First, there is obvious industrial agglomeration in tourism industry in western provinces and regions, and the agglomeration of tourism industry in each province and region has increased in different degrees in recent years.Second, the gap between the agglomeration of tourism industry in western provinces and regions has increased in different degrees over time.Third, the correlation between the tourism economies of western provinces and regions is tested by Moran index, and the study finds that there is a significant spatial correlation between the tourism economies of the provinces and regions.Fourth, the empirical results of the spatial Durbin model under the selected fixed effects indicate that there is a significant spillover effect of tourism economy.Fifth, from the decomposition of the effect, the core explanatory variable tourism industry agglomeration has a positive contribution to the growth of tourism economy in the province, and will have a strong negative spillover effect on other provinces and regions. From the conclusion of the study,it can be seen that there is still a certain imbalance between tourism industry and tourism economic growth in the western provinces and regions. In order to better promote the comprehensive and balanced development of tourism industry as well as tourism economy in the western region, suggestions are made in several aspects, such as narrowing the gap between tourism industry and tourism economic growth in each province and region;breaking administrative planning barriers to achieve complementary resources;strengthening infrastructure construction to break distance barriers;strengthening talent training to improve the quality of industrial development;and exploring new modes of development with the help of new media and new technologies.
