| Agricultural trade between China and C(?)te d’Ivoire has undergone significant growth and transformation over the past decade. As important players in the global agricultural market, both countries have benefited from this bilateral trade, which has facilitated their economic development.Agricultural trade relations between China and C(?)te d’Ivoire are characterized by a mutually beneficial exchange of goods.C(?)te d’Ivoire, known as the world’s largest cocoa producer,is a key supplier of cocoa beans to China, meeting the growing demand for chocolate and cocoarelated products in the Chinese market. In addition,C(?)te d’Ivoire exports other agricultural products to China such as coffee, palm oil, cotton, rubber and cashew nuts. These trade activities have contributed significantly to C(?)te d’Ivoire’s export earnings and to strengthening economic ties between the two countries. However, the emergence of COVID-19 has had a significant impact on global trade, including the agricultural sector. The pandemic has caused disruptions in supply chains, restricted travel and imposed strict measures to contain the spread of the virus. These measures, such as closures, travel restrictions and social distancing protocols, have had a direct impact on trade flows between China and C(?)te d’Ivoire, leading to lower consumer demand, both domestically and internationally,as well as disruptions in transportation and logistics.Border closures, reduced air and sea freight capacity, and rising transportation costs have hampered the smooth functioning of agricultural trade between China and C(?)te d’Ivoire. In addition, the pandemic has also impacted the production and processing of agricultural products in both countries.Lockdowns and labor shortages have affected agricultural activities, leading to lower yields and productivity.Processing facilities have faced operational problems that have impacted the quality and quantity of agricultural products exported. These factors have contributed to price fluctuations and supply chain disruptions, affecting the profitability and stability of agricultural trade between China and C(?)te d’Ivoire.Given the importance of the agricultural sector for both economies,it was essential to understand the impact of COVID-19 on agricultural trade between China and C(?)te d’Ivoire. Thus, the results of this study show that the disruption of this sector by the COVID-19 pandemic has had impacts on the economy of these countries,in particular that of C(?)te d’Ivoire in terms of export volumes of agricultural materials which has declined during this period, the decline in GDP and the slowdown in the growth rate.To do this, this paper first uses the method of multiple linear regression to explore whether the trade between China and Cote d ’Ivoire promotes the growth of the overall trade level of Cote d’Ivoire. At the same time, the strategy of DID is adopted to separate the possible negative effects of the epidemic in advance, and the identification is completed on the basis of confirming the robustness of parallel trends.Secondly, using the event study method to dynamically identify the negative effects caused by the epidemic,to provide empirical evidence for exploring the trend of the overall trade level. In addition, the heterogeneity factor is also fully considered in the above process. The conclusion shows that the trade between China and Cote d ’Ivoire has a significant promoting effect on the overall trade level of Cote d ’Ivoire, and the negative effect of the epidemic is significant but does not seem to be durable. In addition, there was obvious heterogeneity among the three agricultural products.this study seeks to contribute to all existing knowledge on the subject. It also aims to provide valuable information to policymakers, researchers and industry stakeholders to understand the changing dynamics of agricultural trade and make informed decisions to improve the resilience and sustainability of trade in the face of future challenges. |
