Comprehensive Evaluation Of Environmental, Economic And Social Sustainable Development Of Guangzhou

Based on the present researches on evaluation methods for the urban sustainable development, this paper made a comprehensive analysis for the sustainable development of Guangzhou city from three aspects of environment, economy, and society, following the principle of quantifying and nature analysis.The main results are shown as below:1.An evaluative index system for environmental, economic and societal sustainable development was set up. Based on social statistics, we selected and set up the index system for the sustainable development of Guangzhou, and combined the comment characters and individuality of other cities during the different phases of development.2.Method framework of evaluating urban sustainable development is set up in the paper. The framework makes use of the method of multi-index comprehensive evaluation. The method of entropy-value is also used in the framework to decide the three comprehensive indexes of economical development, social development, and environment development. With these indexes, two comprehensive evaluating coefficients of urban sustainable development are found: Sustainability coefficient of urban sustainable development and coordination index of urban sustainable development.3.The ability of urban sustainable development of Guangzhou city during 1978-2003 is evaluated in this paper. Characteristics of sustainable development of Guangzhou are found during the evaluation. The Characteristics will contribute to decision-making of urban management of Guangzhou and some other cities in the future.4. The key effecting factors of sustainable development of Guangzhou are given in the paper. During the past thirteen years, Guangzhou had developed quickly because of the right directing of the government and the zealous participation of the public and enterprises. Economy development improved social and environmental development. Through applying hosting the 2010 Asian Games, the sustainable development was moved to a high level.5.The paper evaluates the level of sustainable development of Guangzhou city for next 15 years. The results show that the present strategy of the urban sustainable development of Guangzhou is right. And social development index is higher than other indexes, which shows that Guangzhou city pay more attention to the social progress. If there is no anthropogenic intervention, the social, economic, and environmental development of thecity will become better. According to comparing of three schemas including some adjusting parameters to simulate the development of Guangzhou, we found that emphasizing on economy developing with high speed and controlling population increase moderately are main impetus which accelerates Guangzhou sustainable development.
