According to the principle of combining quantifying analysis and nature analysis, The paper analyses the comprehensive evaluation method of urban sustainable development which aiming at evaluating the developing level of Beijing and based on the present research on evaluation methods inside and outside of China. The main researches are shown as bellow:1. A systematic conclusion of the research of urban sustainable development is made based on the contents and mechanisms of urban sustainable development after reviewing the present research.2. The index system framework of evaluating the ability of urban sustainable development is presented. The paper analyses the evaluation of urban sustainable development with the methods of systematic analysis and social statistics. An index system of evaluating urban sustainable development is set up firstly in the research. Differences of location, economical environment and social environment of different cities are shown in the index system. At the same time the system also shows common characteristics of the cities.3. The optimal decision-making models of urban sustainable development are offered here. From the view point of systematic optimization, the model integrates the controlling of the urban economy, society and environment to balance the urban development, which uses lagrange method to gain the optimal solution from the quantitative models.4. Method framework of evaluating urban sustainable development is set up in the paper. The framework makes use of the method of multi-index comprehensive evaluation. The method of entropy-value is also used in the framework to decide the three comprehensive indexes of economical development, social development, and environment development. With these indexes, two comprehensive evaluating coefficients of urban sustainable development is found: Sustainability coefficient of urban sustainable development and coordination index of urban sustainable development. This paper uses the two coefficients to quantify the evaluation of urban sustainable development.5. A model for predicting urban sustainable development is setup according to theories of systematic engineering.6. The ability of urban sustainable development of Beijing city during 1990 and 2000 is evaluated in this paper. Characteristics of sustainable development of Beijing are found during the evaluation. The Characteristics will contribute to decision-making of urban management of Beijing and some other cities in the future.7. The key effecting factors of sustainable development of Beijing are given in the paper. During the past ten years, Beijing had developed quickly because of the right directing of the government and the zealous participation of the public and enterprises. Economic development improved social and environmental development. Through applying hosting the 2008 Olympic Games, The sustainable development was moved to a high level.8. The paper evaluates the present level of sustainable development of Beijingcity. The results show that the present strategy of the urban development of Beijing is right in many sides. If there is no intervention of human, the social, economic and environmental development of the city will become better and better. Spatially, social development will be more quickly than economic and environmental development. This shows that Beijing city pay more attention to social progress. According to the evaluation, the paper designs three sets of schema including some adjusting parameters to simulate the development of Beijing city. Some new strategies of speeding the development of Beijing city are made in these schemas.9. According to results of the above evaluation and consulting some other researchers' works, some suggestions on sustainable development of Beijing are made in this paper.
