These years, novel screw is used increasingly in the field of plastic, and most of extruders are equipped with all kinds of screws in some developed countries. Although the general screws are still used in some plants, the problems, which not good plasticization, melted plastic overheated and more fluctuation because rotate speed is increased, would occur inevitably. It is hard that these disadvantages are solved with general screw completely, but the novel screws can do that well. So, it will be an urgent problem how to design new screws speedily and reasonably. Parametric design system of novel screw for extruder is studied determines the parameters of screw and does the parametric design based on extrude theory and experienced equation, so that efficiency would be improved greatly.Design of this system comes down to technology of several fields, including characteristics of plastic processing, screw design, computer software and hardware and so on. When designing the system, user interface was developed under popular circumstance of Visual Basic6.0, drawing system was finished under Solidworks and screw parameters' database was done under Access 2003. Screw parameters that were saved in the table of Access were taken when drawing. The checking formula of this system was from plastic machine design and some experimental result. The whole system has a friendly using interface.The system can be used in these aspects. Firstly, it can be a CAD system of screw for single-screw extruder. The design and develop of new screw can be done with this, so that the developing cycle would be shortened and the cost decreased. Secondly, it can be used as teaching software. By using selection of screw parameters, screw checking and help modules, students can be instructed to design screw, and improve efficiency. Finally, the system can be taken apart as separate parametric drawing system by which the program will be run under Solidworks, automatic drawing will replace handwork so that the efficiency be improved and relieve the workload.The system runs steadily with good communication, which achieves what we anticipated.
