Objective: Our goal was to evaluate the value of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) in the therapy of severe chronic heart failure. Methods: Form October 2008 to June 2009, 20 patients with severe chronic heart failure were included in this study. The vital signs of patients were observed Left ventricular ejection fraction,Plasma concentrations of C-reactive protein (CRP) and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) were measured before and after conventional therapy or CRRT. Result: (1) Heart rate, respiration rate and blood pressure decrease, the concentration of serum K+ and Na2+ become normal. (2) Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) increased more significantly in CRRT group than in conventional therapy group. (3) The plasma concentrations of CRP were higher in patients with severe chronic heart failure than those in control group. And after treatment, its concentrations decreased more significantly in CRRT group than in conventional therapy group. (4) The plasma concentrations of NT-proBNP were higher in patients with severe chronic heart failure than those in control group. And after treatment, its concentrations decreased more significantly in CRRT group than in conventional therapy group. Conclusion: CRRT can safely decrease the cardiac load, improve circulation and redress electrolyte disturbances of patients with severe chronic heart failure. CRRT can decrease the lever of CRP and NT-proBNP in patients with severe chronic heart failure. Because of this, it may interfere in the progress of severe chronic heart failure and improve the cardiac function and prognosis. It can be an effective treatment of severe chronic heart failure.
