With the development of the Open University, the traditional experimental teaching methods can no longer satisfy the needs of modern education. It is inevitable that modern technology should be applied to the experimental teaching through the experimental teaching reform. In order to providing better experimental education,. Experimental teaching center of Materials Science and Engineering of Huazhong University of Science and Technology is promoting the reform of experimental teaching and building a special device-level network for it.The paper gives a simple introduction on Device-level Network of Experimental Teaching for Microstructure according to the web of the Experimental Teaching Center of Materials Science and Engineering. The project design work deals with both hardware and software. The research group designed parts of the equipment including the IC card reader, IC card writer, and design a special circuit to control the Video switcher. All the devices are linked into the RS-485 Bus, and can communicate with the computer according to certain protocols. As the computer in the RS-485 bus is connected to the Internet, the data of the experiments can be uploaded to the Internet indirectly. The Experimental Teaching Management Software is designed in Visual Basic 6.0, including Card Issuing System, Images Acquisition and Display System, the Experimental Data Upload System.The students should get the experimental card and make their appointment through the Internet first, they put their experimental card into the Card Reader when they see the right microstructure and the computer will recognize the information and open the exact channel to collect the images, then save the images with the students'information, and upload the data to the Internet. So the students can download the data and finish their report after class.The system has changed the traditional microstructure experimental teaching history when the students have to hand-point images, and provides great convenience to the microstructure experimental teaching. It is the first time in the nation that the device-level network of experimental teaching was built.
