In recent years, the development and construction of high-speed railway hasbeen grown extremely fast, and the high-speed railway has been adopted throughoutChina. The construction and operation of high-speed railway has promoted regionaleconomic development and becoming a new driving force for the regionaldevelopment. But, the development of high-speed railway has also brought a hugeenvironmental problems. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) of railwayproject as the key decision factors for a line selection, control negative environmentalimpact is becoming the research focus. The EIA of high-speed railway constructionabout researched content and process has further improvement and standardization,but for the use of scientific methods to study complex systems very little, and thismethod is very suitable for solving the nonlinear problem of environmental systems,and the accuracy of the evaluation results, the operation efficiency is veryadvantageous.The main subjects are how to establish the index system of high-speed railwayconstruction EIA and the application of improved back-propagation (BP) artificialneural network (ANN) in the EIA of high-speed rail construction. This article hasdescribed the progress of domestic and foreign research of the topic, and researchobjectives and methods, analyzed the impacts on the environment of the high-speedrailway construction, according to the relevant evaluation criteria to establish theevaluation index system of a high-speed railway construction, described therelevanted developments in artificial neural networks, focusing on the relatedprinciples of BP artificial neural network, discussed how to apply the BP ANN to theenvironmental impact evaluation of high-speed railway construction.In this paper, through the study and investigation on environmental impact ofexisting and operating high-speed railway projects, an evaluation model system isconstructed. A three level forward feedback ANN model of short-term environmentalimpact of high-speed railway is established based on modified BP ANN. The modified BP ANN is based on traditional LM algorithm, combining gradient methodand Gauss-Newton iterative method. The convergence speed and accuracy are muchimproved by this modification. Using Lian Yan city railway as a sample, the createdmodified BP ANN model is used to analysis the environmental impact of thisconstruction project. This validation process justifies that our modified BP ANNmodel is valid, since the model output is an objectively valid and accurate result.
