The cross wedge rolling technology is widely applied in shaft production. Due to the high temperature and high load, the wear on the wedge, especially on the ridge where two flanks meet, is particularly severe. Meanwhile bionic manufacturing technology is an important way to improve the wear resistance of the die. In this paper, the wear resistance of cross wedge rolling die was studied based on bionic theory.Firstly, based on the modified Archard wear, the thermal-mechanical and elastic-plastic coupled FE model is established and verified. The bionic striped units were applied to the wedge. The die stress, real-time temperature and wear were investigated as the function of wedge ridge length, and the mechanism of the wear-resistance of non-smooth die was explored.Secondly, the influence of parameters on die wear was studied and the effect extents were analyzed using the single factor experimental method. Based on the orthogonal experiment, the most optimum package of stripe parameters were obtained utilizing the range analysis and the variance analysis. Finally, a test rig was newly developed for measuring the wear of ridge of cross wedge rolling. According to orthogonal experiment, the optimized striped units were copied to the die. The experiments for the smooth and the striped die were carried out. Wear depth for both ridges were measured. The results show that the wear of striped die is smaller than the smooth die. This paper provides a thought for improving wear resistance on the ridge and has practical significance for improving the die life of CWR.
