Tumd Left Banner is located in the east of Baotou and the west of Hohhot. Tumd dialect is a spot which belongs to the transitional area of the Datong-Baotou Dialect of Jin Dialects. According to the materials from field-work, and drawing on the previous research results, this paper has made a detailed record on speech sounds of Tumd Left Banner Chinese dialect, and the research methods of synchronic description, plane comparison, data statistics, and historical contrast have been adopted. A comprehensive analysis is carried out on Tumd Left Banner Chinese dialect's sound system and its characteristics, by comparing it with the ancient Chinesel phonology, discussing the evolution law of the entering tone in Tumd Left Banner Chinese Dialect, and speculating its phonetic gradation according to variant pronunciations of literary and colloquial speech.This paper is composed of six parts as follows:the first part is introduction, which describes Tumd Left Banner's location, population distribution, evolution and migration history, summarizes the status quo in research of Tumd Left Banner Chinese dialect, and illustrates the significance of the topic; the second part is the analysis on the phonetic system of Tumd Left Banner Chinese dialect, with the description of the initial consonants, vowels and tones of Tumd Left Banner Chinese dialect, and a design of table on the coordinate relations of consonants and vowels, based on which the phonetic changes of flow of speech of Tumd Left Banner Chinese dialect is analysised, with the focus on the dialect Tone Sandhi of type AB and AA, as well as the retroflex final, and finally the phonetic features of Tumd Left Banner Chinese dialect is summarized; the third part is the glossary of homonyms in Tumd Left Banner Chinese dialect; the fourth part, through the comparison between Tumd Left Banner Chinese dialect and ancient Chinese phonology, shows the evolution of "Qieyun" sound system in this dialect; the fifth part offers the changes of the entering tone characters in Tumd Left Banner Chinese dialect, and the analysis on Vanishing of tail vowel in entering tone and appearance of tail vowel in lax tone in accordance with the Word Table of Dialect Survey,the final part is variant pronunciations of literary and colloquial speech and phonetic gradation of Tumd Left Banner Chinese dialect, mainly discussing the phenomenon of literary and colloquial pronunciation of such characters as guo group,geng group, dangjiang group and making speculation to its phonetic gradation.
