Researches on emotional intelligence, in which domestic researchers areinterested, need to improve in some fields, especially in measuring tools. Mostdomestic researchers depend on abroad theory or scale. One of problems is thesescales and theories have different basis. This study tries to do some research onmeasurement of emotional intelligence.Firstly, it introduces the development of researches on emotional intelligence.Based on these, it looks for more reasonable emotional intelligence theory, and hopesto construct more scientific theory foundation for developing emotional intelligencequestionnaire.Secondly, it set up emotional intelligence questionnaire of college student. Onthe basis of literature research, it uses interview and open-end questionnaire to maketest-items according to contents and directions of emotional intelligence activities. Ituses three-rank method to set choose-items. Passed by twice pretests, it usesexploratory factor analysis to get a 47-item emotional intelligence questionnaire. Itconstructs an emotional intelligence model that contains two ranks and ten sub-factors.Two main factors are operating-self-emotion ability and operating-others-emotionability. Under the former factor, there five sub-factors: knowing emotion, expressingemotion, regulating and controlling emotion, foreseeing emotion, experiencingemotion. Under latter factors, there are five sub-factors: perceiving emotion,evaluating and expressing emotion, foreseeing emotion, experiencing emotion,regulating and controlling emotion. Tested by reliability, validity and confirmatoryfactor analysis, the questionnaire has good reliability and validity. Apart from this, thetheory structure of the questionnaire fit data well. So it is a good measuring tool ofemotional intelligence for Chinese college students.Finally, it adopts the emotional intelligence questionnaire to investigateemotional intelligence characters of college student. The results as follows: (1)Totalscores of emotional intelligence present a little negative skewed distribution. Thescores of self dimension are significantly higher than ones of others dimension. Thereare significant differences in most sub-factors. (2)College student's emotionalintelligence shows differences on gender, grade, major, living-source andchild-number. In detail, girls are significantly better than boys; low-grade students area little better than high-grade ones; the students major in art and medicine aresignificantly better than ones major in science and engineering; the students from city,town and countryside have themselves'superiority in emotional intelligence; there arenot significant differences between single child and non-single child.
