With ontology was introduced to the field of GIS, Geo-ontology is paid gradually attention to by the advantage of describing the system's conceptual model in levels of semantic and knowledge, and widely used in geographical knowledge representation, information retrieval, heterogeneous information processing, etc. It can provide context semantics for different of geographical data sources, address heterogeneous problems with the lack of semantic knowledge associated, and achieve information sharing and interoperability to GIS data. Building Geo-ontology is the basic of research in Geo-ontology. The research and application of geo-ontology are based on the basic completion of geo-ontology. Currently, there are not a set of comprehensive and standard criteria for the construction of geo-ontology, and not uniform building methods and tools. Building Geo-ontology is still in the stage of the traditional manual methods, low efficiency and error-prone. Artificially building Geo-ontology is undoubtedly a very complex, time-consuming and labor-intensive process. How to efficiently build Geo-ontology is to be solved problem in the research of Geo-ontology.In this regard, the thesis proposes a method of automatically building Geo-ontology, which is based on fundamental geographic database, to improve the efficiency of geo-ontological construction. Firstly, the thesis supplements the expression of Geo-ontology with OWL via Spatial relation Model. Secondly, based on the research and analysis of corresponding relationship between fundamental geographic databases and Geo-ontology, the thesis defines the mapping rules and complements the conversion from fundamental geographic database to Geo-ontology. On this basis, the thesis designs an automatically building Geo-ontology tool, based on fundamental geographic database, verified the validity of generated Geo-ontology by an example, and complements the initial aims which reduce the workload, save development time and improve the efficiency of building Geo-ontology.
